Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Band 6 Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) to join our team at Yeovil District Hospital. This is a full-time position with night shifts, running from 20:00 to 08:00, for a duration of two months starting in August 2024. The role is ideal for a professional with experience in Home Treatment Teams (HTT) or Psychiatric Liaison Teams (PLT) who can work independently and manage complex cases during night hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Care and Support: Provide high-quality care and support to patients, ensuring their physical, psychological, and emotional needs are met. This includes performing regular check-ups, administering medication, and offering counselling and support to patients and their families.

  • Biopsychosocial Assessments: Conduct thorough biopsychosocial assessments to understand the comprehensive needs of each patient. This involves evaluating mental, emotional, social, and physical aspects of the patient's health and developing tailored care plans accordingly.

  • Clinical Expertise: Utilise advanced clinical skills to monitor patient progress, manage acute mental health conditions, and respond to emergencies. You will be expected to make informed clinical decisions, initiate appropriate interventions, and escalate concerns as necessary.

  • Collaboration and Communication: Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including doctors, therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure a holistic approach to patient care. Effective communication is essential to share patient information, updates, and care plans.

  • Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, ensuring all documentation complies with legal and hospital standards. This includes recording assessments, treatment plans, medication administration, and patient progress notes.

  • Autonomous Work: As this role primarily involves night shifts, the ability to work autonomously is crucial. You must be able to manage your workload, make decisions independently, and handle situations with minimal supervision.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Professional Qualification: Must hold a valid qualification as a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN), Occupational Therapist, or Social Worker.

  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience in mental health settings, specifically within Home Treatment Teams (HTT) or Psychiatric Liaison Teams (PLT).

  • Skills:

    • Strong clinical skills, with a focus on conducting biopsychosocial assessments and managing acute mental health issues.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and colleagues.
    • The ability to work independently, especially during night shifts, and manage time and priorities effectively.
  • Other Requirements:

    • A compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.
    • The ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations.
    • Adherence to professional standards and hospital protocols.
