Job Description

  • To drive LB Camden vehicles to and from sites within and external to the LB of Camden as required including 1632 & 52 Seater Buses. To support clients with complex needs and disabilities to get to their schools and day centres. To conduct vehicle maintenance checks maintain vehicle cleanliness and check all relevant equipment alongside maintaining and updating data logs as required. Plan and map out journey routes as scheduled each day. The normal place of work on a day to day basis is in predominantly outdoor environment in vehicles driving around LB Camden.
  • Drivers are required to have a full driving licence (max 3 points) category D (PCV) and will be expected to take Camdens Driving Assessment Checks (and pass)
  • Drivers are required to have a Driver Qualification Card (DQC / CPC) and Tacho Card this must be made evidence.


Hold a current clean driver s licence with a minimum of unrestricted categories D and can drive a range of vehicles. Rehabilitation Of Offenders Act - The jobholder is exempt from the provisions of the rehabilitation of offenders Act 1974 and is required disclose offences accordingly, as well as meet a satisfactory check. Experience in driving passengers carrying vehicles relevant to the role. Experience of and/or the ability to work with clients with varying learning and physical disabilities. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of requirements for individuals with special needs and ability to respond appropriately / accordingly. Knowledge of health and safety issues, relevant to work environment and equipment used, to ensure safety of all individuals and goods transported. This will include the use of appropriate kinetic lifting techniques and / or equipment as required, dependant on the needs of the individual client. Familiar with local traffic laws and regulations involved in the operation of fleet vehicles. Have a cleared enhanced Criminal Records Bureaux Check (CRB). Have satisfactory references to cover a period of 5 years prior to commencement of employment at Camden for a safeguarding post. The ability to work effectively within a team and foster good relationships with other staff, contractors and clients of the Council. Ability to demonstrate an empathetic knowledge towards those with special needs and respond in a sensitive/caring manner. Ability to understand and apply information given by the supervisor, parent / guardian, carer or school / centre staff on the special needs of the child / client. Demonstrated ability to be solely responsible, or where appropriate shared responsibility for the safety and welfare of passengers/loads. Ability to work flexibly as required and undertake a variety of different activities in daily and weekly functions. The competence and capability to assist and manoeuvre service users for the purposes of transport provision and other needs as necessary using appropriate kinetic lifting techniques and/or equipment. Demonstrated basic written communication skills to complete necessary documentation e.g. work schedules. Proven interpersonal and oral communication skills including the ability to consult with a range of people (e.g. clients, carers, parents, mangers and staff) with particular emphasis in the special need s areas of clients and recognise and respect confidential and sensitive matters. Ability to undertake learning and development in all aspects of staff related matters, service provision, the use of a range of vehicles relating to the role, fixed and mobile. Ability to read maps and follow directions.
