Job Description

General Summary:

Under the supervision of the Payroll/Benefits Supervisor the Payroll Benefits Clerk will perform essential payroll functions and time entry. This role involves auditing timesheets for accuracy ensuring compliance with payroll procedures and policies and providing support to both internal and external customers regarding payroll benefits and confidential information.


*To be considered for this role candidates must not have any outstanding balances with Harris County Toll Road. If selected for interviewing Math Typing and Customer Service assessments are required to be eligible.


Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Payroll Processing (30%): Collect enter and maintain biweekly and supplemental payroll information into various electronic databases; investigate and resolve time card discrepancies.
  • Benefits Assistance (30%): Assist employees with inquiries about benefits retirement and changes to timekeeping policies and procedures; perform outreach during open enrollment.
  • File Management (20%): Audit update and maintain files databases and records in accordance with policies and payroll procedures and guidelines.
  • Communication (10%): Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with internal and external customers.
  • Administrative Tasks (5%): Prepare scan copy fax and file confidential payroll and benefit information.
  • Office Support (5%): Assist in ordering and receiving supplies and materials; handle interoffice mail and correspondence.

Work Environment:

  • Standard office environment with acceptable lighting temperature and air conditions.
  • Routine use of office equipment such as computers phones photocopiers filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

  • Fulltime Temp to Perm position.
  • Typical workdays are Monday through Friday. Hours are 8:00 am 4:30 pm.

Requirements

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Detailoriented with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to quickly learn new software programs and office equipment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in understanding and applying company and payroll policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Good judgment and tact in handling confidential materials.

Physical Demands:

  • Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Required Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Some college preferred
  • Intermediate experience in Microsoft Office (Heavy Excel experience)
  • 23 years of Payroll experience
  • Benefits experience preferred
  • Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish)
  • Minimum one (1) year of data entry experience required.
