Principal Data Scientist

Summary: Our client is seeking an experienced Principal Data Scientist to support their operations in Raleigh NC. This onsite position involves using data mining methods building models and creating simulations to drive business results. The ideal candidate will have a strong analytical background passion for machine learning and a knack for uncovering hidden patterns in large data sets.

Responsibilities:

• Explore large data sets to build modelready data products.
• Leverage analytics tools like SAS to build complex statistical and machine learning models.
• Quickly explore data and apply descriptive statistics to provide rapid business insights.
• Create data mining architectures statistical reports and data analysis methodologies to identify trends.
• Utilize strong statistical and data visualization skills.
• Apply technical principles theories and concepts to perform professional tasks.
• Develop recommended solutions to technical problems.
• Submit work for review regarding technical judgment quality and accuracy.
• Contribute to the completion of assigned technical tasks.

Skills/Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science Social Sciences Physical Sciences Statistics or related discipline with a minimum of 5 years of statistics experience or a Masters degree with a minimum of 3 years of statistics experience.
• Experience with customer churn and lead generation modeling.
• Knowledge of statistics including sample design probability sampling techniques survey and experimental design and measures of precision.
• Knowledge of industry developments business practices and technical developments.
• Proficiency in computerbased data and operating systems programming languages and statistical packages (R SAS etc.).
• Experience working with large datasets in a Hadoop environment.
• Experience with SQL in Oracle and Teradata environments.
• Ability to provide technical guidance related to data design data collection and statistical analysis.
• Strong communication skills both oral and written.
• Ability to provide leadership and support for data science best practices.
• Must be able to work onsite in Raleigh NC.
• Must be able to obtain a Position of Public Trust Clearance US Citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card Holder) and must not have traveled outside the US for a combined total of 6 months or more in the last 5 years.
• Must have resided in the US for the last 5 years.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Masters degree or PhD in a related field.
• Significant experience with R Python C Hadoop SQL Database/Coding Apache Spark Machine Learning Natural Language Processing and visualization tools such as Tableau.
• Demonstrated experience working with unstructured data.
• Local to the Raleigh NC area (no relocation assistance provided).
