Responsibilities
Manage the submission of complete development approval applications, including Official Plan amendment, zoning amendment, Committee of Adjustment, Plan of Subdivision, Site Plan Control, and condominium applications.
Conduct property research, including planning reviews, property roll assessments, Ontario Municipal Board decisions, Heritage Status, and parkland dedication.
Utilize relevant municipal policies to assess potential development opportunities and provide input on highest and best use recommendations.
Conduct site visits as required and manage site servicing schedules and budgets.
Review and analyze municipal planning initiatives and new policies, and prepare internal reporting for circulation.
Monitor and report on relevant industry issues and project-related issues at City Council, Community Council, Committees of Council, and Public Meetings.
Perform due diligence activities and conduct market research to develop an understanding of competing developments and maintain an accurate picture of development occurring city-wide.
Coordinate and manage the Project Consultant Team to obtain required submission materials on time and within budget.
Manage the application submissions and project schedules and obtain approval of development applications from the City.
Participate in Public Meetings for development approval applications and negotiate relevant agreements pertaining to municipal undertakings and related permits.
Prepare and coordinate the Project Team for Ontario Municipal Board Hearings, as required.
Requirements
- Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Outlook.
- Knowledge of MS Project or similar scheduling programs.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD is an asset.
- Knowledge of the current City of Ottawa Official Plan, Zoning By-laws and development processes and policies.
- Knowledge of Ontario planning legislation, in particular the Planning Act.
- Knowledge of the planning process and planning theory.
- Negotiation and mediation skills.
- Analytical, research and report writing skills.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
