Job Description

Applied Foundation Testing is seeking an Geotechnical Engineering Technician Pile Driving Inspection to join our team. No prior experience is required as we provide comprehensive onthejob training to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in this role. As a Geotechnical Engineering Technician you will work alongside experienced professionals in the construction industry and gain hands on experience with field testing. In addition you will have the opportunity to travel 60% of the time across the US. Job Responsibilities include/training provided:

  • Set up and operate equipment for construction site testing.
  • Maintain equipment and troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electronic equipment.
  • Perform instrument calibrations.
  • Set up data collection systems on construction sites and perform test measurements in the field.
  • Submit data to company engineering staff.
  • Keep project documentation expense reports and time sheets.
  • Perform night shift work when necessary.

Detailed Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Performs technical tasks to support field operations including equipment setup/maintenance and repair strain gage installation construction of instrument cables construction of data acquisition systems and calibration of instruments.

2. Maintains shop cleanliness and organization and supports efficient testing activities by maintaining field test equipment.

3. Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical and electronic equipment in the field.

4. Fabricates instrumentation and electronic accessories as specified by supervising engineer.

5. Performs instrument calibrations including transducers and data acquisition devices.

6. Follows relevant procedures and standards as well as internal quality control practices in all lab and field activities.

7. Assists in foundation testing services under the supervision of a cognizant engineer.

8. Identifies and corrects faults in electrical and mechanical systems in the field.

9. Sets up and operates the downhole video system for inspection of drilled shaft foundation construction (Shaft Inspection Device).

10. Performs field testing of concrete drilled shaft foundations utilizing the Crosshole Sonic Logging (CSL) method.

11. Performs Drilled Shaft Inspection.

12. Sets up data collection systems on construction sites and performs test measurements in the field.

13. Downloads test data to USB drive and submits data to company engineering staff.

14. Keeps project documentation expense reports and time sheets organized.

15. Operates various equipment such as small gas engine generator air compressor water pump small hand power tools (drill) mechanics hand tools etc.

16. Performs night shift work when required.

Note: Some of these responsibilities may be subject to the Field Technicians level of experience and training



Requirements

Job Requirements and Skills:

  • Pile Driving Inspector CQTP certification preferred but not mandatory
  • Ability to use common machine tools.
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively.
  • Ability to push pull and lift 75100 lbs from ground level.
  • Ability to be trained and work independently.
  • Willingness to travel to job sites across the US and some international locations. (50% travel)
  • Construction or mechanical background helpful
  • Valid drivers license with good driving record
  • Flexible work hours
