Job Description

$10000 Signon Bonus!!

The Senior Sonographer IIFetal Therapy under the general supervision of the Chief imaging Technologist and with the assistance of a physician performs a more extensive range of diagnostic ultrasound and intervention procedures assists in the training and supervising of ultrasound Sonographers in clinical research studies and orients and educates medical staff in theory and applications of sonographic technology.

Education/ Required Licensure Certification:

  • Current and active registered diagnostic medical sonographer (RDMS) in obstetrics and fetal echocardiography.
  • Nuchal translucency certification through Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF) or the Nuchal Translucency Qualtiy Review Program (NTQR).
  • Diploma/Certificate/GED

Work Experience:

At least four (4) years of clinical experience in diagnostic obstetrical ultrasound.

Shift:

Full Time (40 hours)

Day Shift 7:00 am 5:00 pm

Knowledge:

Requires thorough knowledge of anatomy physiology and pathology of all fetal conditions that diagnosed with prenatal ultrasound today. In addition specific knowledge about the presentation of fetal disease as it changes in the different trimester of pregnancy is required.

Requires knowledge about specific targeted ultrasound examination details that need to be acquired to define the severity of the fetal conditions before treatment.

Requires knowledge about the severity staging systems used for certain fetal conditions.

Requires knowledge of all fetal therapies that are available today to address various fetal anomalies and conditions diagnosed prenatally.

Requires knowledge about the ultrasound appearance of recognized complications that can follow invasive and noninvasive fetal therapy.

Requires thorough knowledge of the imaging standards that are required to document either improvement or worsening of the fetal condition after fetal therapy is initiated.

Requires knowledge about physiology of fetal development and the ultrasound examination that is required to assess these parameters.

Skills:

Must be proficient in highresolution twodimensional ultrasound scanning.

Must be proficient in the pulse wave and color Doppler examination of the entire fetal circulation beyond what is required in obstetric ultrasound (renal arteries organ specific perfusion coronary arteries fetal vessels of fetal tumors etc.).

Must proficient in structural functional and specialized fetal echocardiography required for diagnosis of fetal cardiac anomalies monitoring of fetal heart function or rhythm.

Must be proficient in first trimester echocardiography.

Must be proficient in obtaining additional views that go beyond the OB standard ultrasound examination and the application of several imaging protocols (ISUOG (International Society for Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology) protocols of fetal neurosonography echocardiography and monitoring of multiple pregnancies. Using twodimensional ultrasound or three dimensional acquisition and reconstruction.

Must be able to provide ultrasound guidance for invasive fetal procedures as well as intraoperative monitoring of fetal wellbeing for complex fetal surgeries including fetoscopic spina bifida repair fetoscopic tracheal occlusion or open fetal surgery.

Must be able to synthesize the information gained during the ultrasound examination and present it in the logical fashion to fetal therapy attending physician in a manner that is relevant to the specific fetal conditions and clinical context (i.e. pretreatment post treatment).

Must be able to generate ultrasound reports that capture essential findings even in the most complex conditions.

The fetal therapy sonographer will work in the Center for Fetal Therapy Labor & Delivery and the operating room. The patient population includes >90% complicated pregnancies with fetal anomalies that are referred for evaluation for fetal therapy. This is in contrast to many obstetric ultrasound units where this proportion is 1015%.
