Develops procedures and methods for the use of digital geoscience data (in vector
raster and image format) in analysis interpretation and assessment.
Assists scientific staff in using GIS to conduct project work.
Produces finished GIS geo science and mineral resource databases and illustrations for publication.
Writes technical reports for publication.
Enter data from tables into spreadsheets for statistical or geospatial analysis.
Use geologic knowledge and skill to read geologic maps and literature to find and enter geologic and mineral resource data into spreadsheets for statistical or geospatial analysis.
Geo reference raster images using a variety of base map material and approaches topographic maps digital elevation models and orthoimagery.
Enter data into ArcGIS software using scanned and geo referenced images text files spreadsheets of tabular data and (or) database files.
Create and edit Federal Geographic Data Commission metadata to accompany data published as USGS Data Releases.
Edit attribute and proof ArcGIS files (stored in file geodatabases and shapefiles).
Manipulate and analyze data needed to perform modeling using ArcGIS Spatial Analyst Geo statistical Analyst and Image Analyst extensions.
Provide digital documentation of work conducted on assigned projects following procedures that comply with Federal Geographic Data Commission metadata standards.
Create and prepare products for publications using ArcGIS and other desktop publishing software (such as Adobe Acrobat Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop).
Performers are also expected to know USGS graphics standards and produce figures and GIS products that meet those standards with little guidance.
Write portions of USGS publications series technical reports for technical review and publication as appropriate.
Follow all USGS existing procedures and guidelines for content creation. Performers are expected to know standards for USGS Data Releases.
Provide technical reviews of GIS databases and metadata.
Inform the Technical Liaison of all equipment and data problems.
Provide monthly reports to Technical Liaison/COR or their designee.
Ensure that all work areas are kept free of safety hazards at all times.
