Job Description

We are looking for a Data Centre Network Engineer to join the team at one of our most valued clients a Big 4 consultancy supporting an IT transformation for a large energy client.

The successful candidate will integrate into the consultancys team and work directly with the end client providing subject matter expertise to support the project.

Type of job: Contract / freelance
Working hours: Fulltime (40 hours / week)
Duration: ASAP 31.12.2024 with option of further extensions
Location: Hybrid remote with occasional visits to client site Berlin (negotiable)

Project background
The team is building an internal platform (EDP) for software product developers to accelerate the development and delivery of software products to tackle the massive challenges facing the energy sector. The platform is a service oriented cloudnative platform that is being built to provide application teams with selfservice capabilities to develop run and operate their software products. The platform provides services for application infrastructure data service lifecycle management application build and delivery as well as services to operate their software products. The platform is deployed in a hybrid cloud encompassing both private cloud and select public clouds.

We are looking for talented experienced and motivated individuals to join this project.

Position description
The infrastructure product line offers data centre services that are provided through a software layer to other product lines within the programme.

The Data Centre Network Engineer is a member of the network subgroup and reports to the Network Delivery lead. The Data Centre Network Engineer is responsible for planning and delivering the infrastructure in line with the architectural and operational requirements as they are documented. The Data Centre Network Engineers outputs are intended to be script based to simplify implementation through increased efficiency as well as to standardise the work and reduce human errors. The Data Centre Network Engineer is required to understand the automated procedures and how to use them.

Using their knowledge the Data Centre Network Engineer will create the appropriate documentation and hand over operational documentation to enable structured and standardised maintenance.

While the project is in startup mode the Data Centre Network Engineer feels comfortable taking on tasks outside the defined core competencies and is openly creating the necessary communication channels within the various organisations working on this programme.

Key activities
  • Successful Network delivery: The Data Centre Network Engineer has the knowledge to plan implement and document the inscope environment as defined
  • Integration into processes: The Data Centre Network Engineer follows the designed processes to achieve successful work and collaboration as well as detailed documentation
  • Continuous Improvement and Adaptation: The Data Centre Network Engineer actively validates implementation processes and creates and updates the needed scripts and jobs. He actively informs the team lead and the engineers about detected deviations and required corrections as well as configuration adjustments. The Data Centre Network Engineer further reports observations in case the configuration does not deliver the required security standards
  • Effective Collaboration and Communication: The Data Centre Network Engineer does have the capability to explain technical requirements properly. Data Centre Network Engineer has an open mindset to collaborate within technical alignments
  • SelfOrganisation: The Data Centre Network Engineer has the capability to organise the work handed over according to prioritisation and complexity. Data Centre Network Engineer tracks the status and reports actively. In case further information is required the Data Centre Network Engineer will actively investigate to find the relevant contacts and start resolving the issue aligning with the engineers


Requirements

Eligibility
  • All candidates must be resident in and have the unrestricted right to work in the EU
  • All candidates must be able to travel to the client site in Berlin as required (travel allowance will be paid)
Musthave competencies / skills
  • The individual must have at least 5 years networking experience in enterprise data centre network environments and/or largescale data centre contexts
  • CCIE or CCNP Enterprise Data Centre certification is required
  • The individual should be able to clearly communicate with peers and engineers about the status of the environment
  • Problem analysis and resolution competencies covering the dependencies across layers above and below the network topics
Network
  • Good experience with data centre networks VLAN MPLS VPN and remote access
  • Good experience Cisco ACI and/or Juniper Apstra
  • Protocols to be supported are BGP ISIS OSPF IPSec DNS IPAM
  • Network delivery automation with Ansible ability to align with software development team using Python
  • Usage of DevOps and system management tools
  • Experience with Jira Confluence and/or Miro
  • Understanding of Linux and Windows environments
Language
  • Fluent English
Optional (nice to have)
  • Basic Palo Alto Next Generation Firewalls skills
  • Linux (minimum basic) VMware (minimum basic) LDAP OIDC OAUTH PKI Certificates CSI Hardening
