Job Type : Contract Location : Chatsworth California Pay : $18/hour on W2 Job Description

Position: Special Education Paraprofessional

Location: Chatsworth CA

Job Overview: The school in Chatsworth CA is seeking a dedicated and compassionate fulltime Special Education Paraprofessional to join our team. The successful candidate will provide support to students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) assisting in their academic social and behavioral development. The paraprofessional will work closely with teachers and other school staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Classroom Support:

    • Assist the special education teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with ASD.
    • Provide oneonone or small group support to students reinforcing instructional material and addressing specific learning needs.
    • Assist with classroom management ensuring a structured and supportive environment.
  2. Behavioral Support:

    • Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) as directed by the special education teacher or behavior specialist.
    • Monitor and document student behavior providing feedback to the teacher and support team.
    • Use positive reinforcement and other strategies to support students social and emotional development.
  3. Instructional Assistance:

    • Assist in preparing instructional materials and classroom activities.
    • Support students during lessons helping them understand and complete assignments.
    • Provide assistance with technology and adaptive equipment as needed.
  4. Personal Care and Assistance:

    • Assist students with personal care tasks including toileting feeding and mobility as required.
    • Ensure the health and safety of students by following established procedures and protocols.
    • Support students during transitions between activities and settings.
  5. Collaboration and Communication:

    • Work collaboratively with teachers therapists and other school staff to support student learning and development.
    • Communicate effectively with parents and caregivers providing updates on student progress and any concerns.
    • Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities.
  6. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate and confidential records of student progress and behavior.
    • Assist in preparing reports and documentation for IEP meetings and other reviews.
    • Follow school policies and procedures for recordkeeping and reporting.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Experience working with children with autism spectrum disorders or other special needs is preferred.
  • Knowledge of special education practices and behavior management techniques.
  • Strong communication interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Patience empathy and a genuine interest in supporting the development of students with special needs.
