Job Description

What you will be doing:

  • Develop implement and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Collaborate with parents teachers and other educational professionals to create and review IEPs.
  • Regularly assess and document student progress toward IEP goals adjusting plans and strategies as necessary.
  • Provide direct instruction and support to students with special needs in both inclusive and selfcontained settings.
  • Design and deliver differentiated instruction that accommodates various learning styles and abilities.
  • Utilize evidencebased teaching methods and interventions to enhance student learning and achievement.
  • Conduct formal and informal assessments to evaluate students’ academic social and behavioral needs.
  • Interpret assessment results to inform instructional planning and decisionmaking.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and progress.
  • Create a positive inclusive and supportive classroom environment that promotes student engagement and learning.
  • Implement effective behavior management strategies to support a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Adapt the classroom environment to meet the physical sensory and cognitive needs of students.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers support staff and administration to ensure a cohesive approach to student education.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings including IEP meetings to discuss student progress and develop action plans.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with parents and guardians providing regular updates on student progress and addressing any concerns.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in special education and instructional strategies.
  • Participate in schoolwide training and professional development opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal state and local regulations related to special education.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of IEPs assessments progress reports and any required reporting.

Experience you will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Valid Michigan teaching certification with a Special Education endorsement.
  • Demonstrated experience working with students with diverse learning needs preferably in a school setting.
  • Strong knowledge of special education laws IEP development and instructional strategies for students with disabilities.
  • Excellent communication organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team and independently.
