Overview
This position is responsible for the design implementation and administration of enterprise networks including data wireless security and voice for both local area networks and international wide area networks. The Principal WAN Engineer collaborates closely with the Architecture team to ensure network designs meet established standards and guidelines. Additionally this role serves as a mentor to operational support teams providing guidance for the network environment.
Responsibilities
- Network Design and Implementation:
- Develop and implement enterprise networking solutions that meet specified security and architecture standards.
- Work primarily with Cisco (ACI and Nexus) and Meraki hardware.
- Mentorship and Team Support:
- Mentor and coach a team of network administrators ensuring highquality service delivery.
- Network Performance:
- Provide recommendations for design and configuration improvements to enhance network performance.
- IP and DHCP Management:
- Establish and maintain IP schemes and DHCP scopes.
- Incident Resolution:
- Act as an escalation point for networkrelated incidents ensuring timely and effective resolution.
- Network Security:
- Assist the Cyber/SecOps team with network security design and implementation as needed.
- Expert Guidance:
- Serve as a senior network expert to other support teams.
- Incident Management:
- Participate in major incident calls and large outages providing expertise to resolve critical issues.
- Documentation:
- Maintain and update network documentation including diagrams configurations and procedures.
- Proactive Approach:
- Demonstrate a strong sense of urgency and accountability in restoring operational states.
Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Technology or a related field is highly preferred.
- Certifications:
- CCIE certification is required with a preference for CCIE Data Center.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of network/telecommunications experience.
- Minimum of 5 years in network architecture and design.
- Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with crossfunctional teams.
- Experience mentoring and coaching network administrators.
- Advanced knowledge of networking switching and routing technology.
- Sufficient knowledge of firewall technology and network security.
- Advanced proficiency with Cisco routers switches wireless and voice technologies.
- Strong understanding of LAN/WAN infrastructure protocols.
- Knowledge of network management processes and applications.
- Ability to adapt to evolving technology.
- Expertise in routing and routing protocols specifically BGP OSPF and EIGRP.
- Experience with wireless networks/controllers using Aruba or Cisco hardware.
- Proficiency with firewall policies and rule sets particularly with Cisco ASA and Palo Alto platforms.
