Job Description

Creative Services Librarian

Join an awardwinning Library! TheSchaumburg Township District Library is looking for a Creative ServicesLibrarian Librarian 2. This opportunity offers excellent benefits working 37.5 hours a weekduring library hours to include required nights and weekends.

Theschedule is based on the needs of the library and could change if and whenneeded. The annual salary range for this position is $51500$64389 based onskills and qualifications.

Position Summary:

The Creative Services Librarian is responsible for thecoordination and development of largescale all ages programming libraryexhibits and handson programs with a focus on creating experiences thatattract a broad range of ages and cultivating new audiences.

Requirements &Skills for the Position:

  • Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions or complaints from managers board of directors business community members and patrons.
  • Ability to define and solve practical problems collect data and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop execute and oversee largescale programs and exhibits targeting a broad range of ages.
  • Lead multiple teams comprised of Librarian 2level employees from multiple other departments.
  • Encourage interdepartmental collaboration and idea sharing.
  • Responsible for overseeing projects and setting expectations for Librarian 2level employee’s contributions to interdepartmental programs exhibits and other largescale initiatives.
  • Responsible for the success of highbudget and highprofile programs exhibits and other initiatives by delegating tasks to Library 2level employees and managing their work on these initiatives.
  • Identify new partnerships technologies and initiatives that support the Library’s programming vision.
  • Identify and pursue grant or funding opportunities when applicable; lead the application process.
  • Develop annual timelines to guide the planning process for largescale programs and exhibits
  • Develop and implement handson participatory programs and experiences in coordination with employees from other areas.
  • Train staff to engage with patrons through participatory exhibit experiences.
  • Use creativity cutting edge technology and pop culture to enhance exhibits special projects and events.
  • Define and evaluate the impact and effectiveness of largescale programs exhibits and participatory programs through outcomebased measures.
  • Plan schedule and staff programs that are offered both inperson and online via Zoom YouTube and other platforms.
  • Initiate and maintain librarywide interdepartmental communications about exhibits and large scale programs.
  • Maintain working knowledge of the Library’s reference tools and materials the online catalog and the internet.
  • Instruct patrons in the use of the Library’s reference tools and materials the online catalog and the Internet.
  • Maintain working knowledge of the Library’s circulating collection.
  • Participate in workshops classes webinars networking meetings and conferences to enhance knowledge of programs exhibits and maker technology.
  • Stay informed about the names of officials organizations clubs businesses schools social agencies etc. in the greater Schaumburg area.
  • Keep apprised of the offerings of neighboring public and special libraries and strengths and weaknesses.
  • Assess patrons’ needs effectively and efficiently either in person over the telephone or in writing.
  • Develop strong research skills and techniques to help patrons to the fullest degree possible.
  • Work with all age groups effectively.
  • Give information based on a primary source from a reliable authority; never give personal opinion.
  • Serve as ‘Person in Charge’ of Library in the absence of director and department heads and when he or she is the senior person at the Reference Desk.
  • Manage and complete special projects as requested.
  • Maintain professional involvement in the library science industry
  • Attend meetings and training as required or requested.
  • Treat all patrons and employees fairly and with an open mind; maintain patron and employee confidentiality.
  • Communicate clearly either in person on the telephone and in writing.
  • Cope with the stress of the job and get along with coworkers.
  • Maintain the ability and patience to understand and be understood by all patrons.
  • This position oversees teams comprised of Librarian 2level employees from multiple other departments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or experience:

  • Master’s of Library Science (MLS degree) from an accredited ALA accredited university or school.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in programming exhibit development or event management.
  • Experience leading collaborative teams preferred.
  • Working knowledge or word processing spreadsheet and database applications is required.
  • Familiarity with online meeting. Webinar and video platforms including Zoom and YouTube.
