Senior Fire Protection Engineer EIT

Duration: Full Time

Location: Virginia Beach VA / Raleigh NC / Macon GA

A Fire Protection Engineer EIT will perform fire protection engineering services on multidiscipline building design projects of small to large scope for commercial and government facilities as well as single discipline fire protection engineering projects of small to large scope.

General responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Performing various aspects of fire protection design as directed by a Senior Fire Protection Engineer including conceptual studies program requirements design analyses calculations systems selection and layout for building design
• Preparation of programming documents schematic documents design development documents and construction documents as directed
• Coordination and communication with design team members to ensure the fire protection design details integrate properly with the work of all other project disciplines
• Preparation of marketing and presentation materials as directed
• Performing various services associated with the bidding process including preparing addenda and amendments and opening and tabulating bids as directed
• Performing various services associated with the construction phase including field visits answering RFIs reviewing shop drawings and preparing record drawings as directed
• Complying with quality control policies and procedures
• Learn and implement department and company standards
• Develop analysis and design skills
• Participating in team meetings and coordinating efforts with other team members
• Working with responding to and taking direction from the Department Director Managing Principals Project Managers Design Managers Senior Fire Protection Engineers and senior management
• Working with a team of architects engineers interior designers and landscape architects

Project responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Perform Fire Protection Engineer or Senior Fire Protection Engineer tasks as directed
• Responsible for document organization and clarity
• Responsible for discipline drawing coordination
• Completing sections and details produced to a schematiclevel of completion by the fire protection Engineer
• Creating schematiclevel fire protection systems design for projects of low to moderate complexity
• Assist in development of an accurate threedimensional model of the structure with the necessary level of detail using the required Building Information Modeling (BIM) software package when BIM is a project requirement
• Develop design options for resolution of system conflicts
• Assist with building systems calculations and LEED templates
• Participate in building system selections
• Participate in building code analysis process
• Participate in development of discipline specifications
• Coordinating work product with other disciplines
• Adhere to project schedule and budget

Education Technology and Experience

• Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Engineering from an ABET accredited university or a postgraduate degree in Fire Protection Engineering
• Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination
• Pursuing Professional Engineer licensure (PE) within 48 months of being hired.
• Understanding of sustainable design principles and design practices and pursuing LEED AP accreditation is desirable
• Additional certifications such as CDT CCS or CCCA are encouraged to reflect personal growth in the profession and an ever increasing knowledge base to enhance the design and documentation process
• A Fire Protection Engineer EIT should be able to effectively utilize current company software programs for word processing email and information management.
• Working familiarity with design and production software to a point of being able to utilize the software in the development of project documents and interact with other project team members in their use of the software is highly desirable.
• Up to 4 years of specific postgraduation fire protection engineering experience that includes experience with code analysis design calculations coordination with other design team members and experience in responding to construction phase queries and submittals.
• Successful completion of at least one student internship is desirable.
• Prior experience in an Engineering or multidiscipline Architectural & Engineering firm is desirable.
• Experience and a working knowledge of applicable building codes and standards
