Job Description

Northern College of Acupuncture Opportunity for new members to join the Board of Directors in 2024


The College

Initially as a founderled institution the Northern College of Acupuncture disrupted the market to provide the first higher education degree in Acupuncture and has since developed a pioneering and progressive approach towards higher qualifications and professional development in Acupuncture Chinese Herbal Medicine and Nutrition. Our degree courses are universityvalidated and accredited by the relevant professional bodies and the College is registered with the Office for Students. In% of our students reported that the course had developed the knowledge and skills they needed of their future 87% reported that staff value students views and opinions about the course and 80% had gone on to work or further study after graduating.

What does a Director/Trustee do

The Directors/Trustees ensure the college has a clear strategy and that its work and goals are in line with its vision. The trustees role is to be the guardians of purpose making sure that all decisions made put the needs of the beneficiaries first. Trustees attend regular meetings and ensure they have read the papers for the meeting in advance so they can comment effectively in the discussion. They have the confidence to ask questions to make sure they understand the implications of any decisions which need to be made. From time to time they may be asked to give extra time to a project or piece of work which needs the kind of expertise only they can offer. The ability to listen to others question explore ideas maintain an objective overview and work collaboratively for the good of the whole are ideal skills for a trustee.

What skills or experience do I need to have

The most important part of being a Director/Trustee is the ability to ask questions provide support and have the best interests of the college/charity at heart. You dont have to have experience in education or governance to become a Trustee. We welcome all applications but are currently seeking a range of skills to support the Boards work including finance business development and law.
