Job Description

The NCA is a small and friendly independent College with an excellent reputation for training practitioners in the UK and beyond. As well as offering a BSc in Acupuncture we also offer MScs in Nutrition Chinese Herbal Medicine and Advanced Oriental Medicine. We have run an acupuncture course since 1988 and offered the BSc in Acupuncture since 2008. It is accredited by the British Acupuncture Accreditation Board and validated by the University College of Osteopathy. Were currently looking to recruit an Acupuncture Teaching Clinic Supervisor to work one day a week on Saturdays. You will join a committed and experienced team of supervisors and will work directly with students (normally in groups of up to six) and patients in the acupuncture teaching clinic at the College. It is a rewarding role with the pleasure of helping students to develop into capable independent practitioners. Key Tasks 1.Oversee the treatment of all patients by students to ensure excellence in patient care and the safety of patients. 2.Take responsibility for the supervision of students in the teaching clinic providing a supportive learning environment which enables the development of competent and professional practitioners whilst safeguarding both patients and students.3.Take responsibility for student assessments and reviews as agreed with the Clinical Education Lead and maintain accurate student records.4.Ensure clinical outcomes research data gathered and recorded contribute to other research undertaken in the clinic and promote awareness of the role of research in relation to clinical practice.5.Ensure the smooth running of the clinic and undertake administrative tasks as necessary including making appropriate referrals and responding to complaints.6.Attend clinic supervisors team meetings and other agreed meetings and development events.7.Provide timely and appropriate support to recent graduates of the college.8.Report to and liaise with the Clinical Education Lead to ensure the smooth running of the Clinical Modules.9.Assist the Clinical Education Stream Lead and Course Director in the maintenance of accreditation and validation of the course.10.Participate in the Colleges Performance Review Programme. Were looking for candidates who fit the following criteria:Essential:Education and Qualifications: Undergraduate or postgraduate degree or equivalent in acupunctureProfessional Membership:Member of the British Acupuncture CouncilKnowledge and Experience: Three years of clinical practiceKey Skills and Ability: Ability to plan manage and organise own teaching contributionsAble to resolve and make decisions about student suitability in line with professional standardsAble to contribute to management and administrative processesAble to work effectively in a team understanding the strengths and areas of development for others within teamCommunicate new and complex information effectively both verbally and in writing engaging the interest and enthusiasm of target audienceWork proactively with colleagues in CollegeFamiliarity with the Microsoft Office suite of programs especially Outlook Word and TeamsAvailability: 7.5 hours every Saturday (working 9am 5:30pm (with 1hr unpaid break 1pm2pm)Personal Attributes: Team workerAbility to work closely with colleaguesAbility to work alone and under own initiativeFlexible attitude to change and responding to urgent needAbility to manage time well and meet deadlinesWell organisedPositive and studentcentred approachDesirable:Education and Qualifications:Postgraduate degreePGCertHEKnowledge and Experience:Five Years of clinical practicePrevious experience of managing and delivering educational coursesEngagement in research or scholarly activity or in the development of an area of knowledge or clinical expertise or willingness to become so engaged Sufficient knowledge and experience of clinical supervision to be able to teach and supervise at undergraduate and masters levelExperience of teachingAbility to make appropriate contribution to the Colleges clinical outcomes researchExperience of mentoring supervising practiceKey Skills and Ability:Able to contribute to the design of course modules curriculum development and new teaching approaches to acupunctureAble to use various IT platformsAble to engage counselling skills and pastoral care where appropriateAvailability:Additional availability for occasional holiday and sickness cover on other days is welcome. Details: This is an employed role. Pay is 140.00 per day and youre able to claim back your travel expenses. Start date: 2nd September 2023 running the clinic by yourself (with at least two training / shadowing sessions before then).We aim to close this advert in midJune.
