The aim of our provision is to engage develop and empower children and young people to develop their social and emotional capabilities and improve their engagement with learning through naturebased activities.
As the Horticulture Learning Leader (Horticulture Lead) you will lead the maintenance and development of the garden and growing space at our Outdoor Learning Centre in Bishopstoke Eastleigh.
In addition you will lead the development and implementation of horticulture courses for children and young people engaging in our provision.
You will be part of a wider outdoor learning team dedicated to supporting developing and engaging children and young people to realise their abilities aspirations and make a valuable contribution to their communities through horticulture and naturebased learning. In addition to the horticulture role you will be working across a number of projects leading sessions to support young people in a variety of settings including Itchen Valley Country Park New Park Farm and Schools sites.
Occasional evening and weekend working will be required
Appropriate horticulture qualification
Leading and managing the development of a garden/growing space
Leading horticulture activities with children and young people
Working with at risk or vulnerable children and young people
Experience of delivering a range of activities outdoors to children and young people in
an outdoor setting Knowledge
Understanding of horticulture and gardening
Understanding of outdoor learning and forest school theories and principles
An understanding of the diverse needs of socially excluded children and young people
and the issues that lead to social exclusion
Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding
Understanding of the principles and practices of equality and diversity
Understanding of Health and Safety and safe working practice when working with young people and families
