Overview:
The Pathology Lab Technician plays a crucial role in the medical laboratory by performing a variety of technical and clerical tasks essential to the diagnosis treatment and prevention of disease. They are responsible for collecting processing and analyzing patient samples as well as ensuring the accuracy of laboratory data and adherence to quality control standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect and prepare patient samples for analysis
- Conduct diagnostic testing on various specimens using laboratory equipment
- Record and analyze data interpreting results to assist in patient diagnosis
- Ensure compliance with safety and quality control procedures
- Perform maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment
- Assist in the development and implementation of new laboratory procedures
- Contribute to the maintenance of laboratory records and documentation
- Communicate with medical staff to relay test results and provide support
- Participate in continuing education to stay updated on new technologies and techniques
- Adhere to laboratory policies procedures and regulations
Required Qualifications:
- Associate degree in medical laboratory technology or related field
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) preferred
- 13 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting
- Proficiency in laboratory techniques and equipment operation
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and laboratory procedures
- Ability to perform and interpret complex analyses
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Familiarity with quality control and assurance processes
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
