We are seeking a dedicated Braillist to join our team as an Alternative Media Technician. As a key contributor you will play a crucial role in providing accessible materials to students with vision impairments ensuring their educational journey is enriched and inclusive.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Develop tactile maps and graphs as needed.
- Manage inventory of supplies required for daily tasks.
- Demonstrate proficiency in English language conventions including spelling grammar and punctuation.
- Maintain detailed records of all transcriptions appropriately labeling electronic files for future use.
- Organize time effectively to ensure materials are promptly available for students.
- Establish and curate a diverse resource library to explore alternative material formats.
- Collaborate closely with the Teacher of Students with Vision Impairments (TSVI) to adapt materials as necessary.
- Stay updated on technological advancements related to braille production and assistive technology interfaces.
- Convert various materials such as books workbooks tests and assignments into accessible formats for visually impaired students.
Requirements
- Possession of a Washington State License and Certification for the Braillist position.
- Submission of fingerprints to OSPI (Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction) before commencement
