Purpose & Goal:
The Drainage Designer plays a crucial role in the design and planning of Water Management Projects at Alleghany Farm Services. The main goal of the Drainage Designer is to survey fields and design custom water management systems for farms vineyards and orchards.
Basic Functions:
- Create custom drainage designs using field engineering and layout hardware software and technology (level GPS total station CAD Trimble Ag Trimble Business Center etc.) to ensure precise and accurate work.
- Identify and design edgeoffield practices such as water control structures saturated buffers blind inlets and wood chip bioreactors.
- Perform layout duties with a focus on quality ensuring installations are done correctly according to specifications.
- Conduct quality control checks on previously installed work documenting any errors and ensuring corrections are made.
- Ensure all materials used are appropriate for project conditions.
- Maintain organized and uptodate project drawings and documentation communicating revisions and changes to the project team.
- Attend and actively participate in preconstruction progress scheduling and project/staff meetings.
- Identify and communicate conflicts or issues within construction documents and progress for timely resolution.
- Track project schedules and progress to ensure timely completion of all tasks.
- Perform quantity tracking and calculations as assigned communicating findings to the project team.
- Coordinate and communicate with project management and field supervisors reviewing work plans and progress to address issues and opportunities.
- Evaluate project/work item means and methods proactively to make timely adjustments.
Requirements
- Preferably possess a 4year Civil Engineering degree although not required.
- Understanding of basic water management concepts including drainage earthwork utilities and stormwater.
- Proficiency in accurate layout and surveying using total station GPS levels and data collectors.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD Carlson Pocket 3D and similar programs.
- Basic computer skills including Word Excel Outlook etc.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to delegate tasks appropriately and ensure completion.
- Strong decisionmaking and problemsolving abilities.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Physical endurance and proficiency in operating an ATV.
- Willingness to travel to site locations across the northeast as required.
