Job Description

OCU Hornbill (Part of the wider OCU Group) currently have an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Electrical Engineerto join our team in Neath.

OCU Hornbill is an established Process Control Instrumentation and Electrical services company based in South Wales with a wide and diverse client base throughout the UK and overseas. Typical markets are Oil Gas Chemicals Metals and Utilities.

As an Apprentice Electrical Engineer you will work under the guidance of experienced engineers to gain practical experience and theoretical knowledge in the field of electrical engineering. This apprenticeship programme aims to provide you with the skills necessary to become a competent and qualified electrical engineer.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with Installation and Maintenance: Work alongside senior engineers to assist with the installation repair and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and ProblemSolving: Learn to identify and troubleshoot electrical faults and issues implementing solutions under supervision.
  • Reading and Interpreting Technical Drawings: Develop the ability to read and understand technical drawings schematics and wiring diagrams to aid in installation and repair tasks.
  • Testing and Inspection: Participate in testing and inspection procedures to ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.
  • Learning Electrical Principles and Regulations: Study electrical principles regulations and standards relevant to the industry to develop a solid understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of work undertaken including any repairs inspections or installations. Report findings to senior engineers as required.
  • Health and Safety: Always adhere to health and safety protocols ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and others.
  • Continuous Learning and Development: Actively participate in training sessions workshops and other learning opportunities provided as part of the apprenticeship programme.

Skills and Experience required:

  • Motivated and keen to learn.
  • Flexible and professional.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Ability to work well individually and as part of a team.
  • Can follow instructions and work under pressure.
  • Have Electrical experience currently training or have gained qualifications (Desirable).
