The Penny Ice Creamery Made From Scratch

The Penny Ice Creamery is the only Ice Cream Shop in Santa Cruz that makes ice cream completely from scratch in house. We create unique seasonal ice cream flavors made with local and organic ingredients.
The Ice Cream Maker/Pastry Assistant is responsible for preparing all of the ingredients that go into our ice cream and eventually spinning and pasteurizing the ice cream. Duties include cracking eggs making syrups jams various confections and preparing fruit and vegetables. Once you have shown your prep abilities youll be trained to spin ice cream using our Emery Thompson Batch Ice Cream Spinner! One you master ice cream spinning we will be able to train you to pasteurize and help you get your pasteurization license. Anyone with a current pasteurization license is encouraged to apply.
This position is available at our Downtown Santa Cruz location (913 Cedar Street Santa Cruz CA 95060).
Requirements
Preferably at least one year experience with food preparation or kitchen work but we will train the right person
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively
Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
Desire to learn more about locally sourced food and sustainable business
Available for at least 20 hours a week on a reliable basis (weekdays/ weekends/ holidays)
Able to lift 50lbs repeatedly (making ice cream is a lot of heavy lifting)
