As a leading member of the web engineering team, you'll need to be naturally inquisitive, product focused and enjoy solving real user problems. Be hands on in writing clean, testable code, and also be willing to spend time coaching and mentoring junior team members. Guide best practices collaboratively and have the ambition to take ownership of complex tasks and projects, whether working solo or leading the team.

The role is remote first, with 1 team day per month in the Sheffield office. (Applicants must be UK based)

Key responsibilities:

- Develop and maintain web applications using PHP, JavaScript, and other web technologies
- Collaborate with our engineering team to design and build high-quality, responsive web applications
- Integrate web applications with third-party APIs and services.
- Write clean, testable, and well-documented code that is easy to understand and maintain
- Troubleshoot and debug web applications when needed
- Mentor less experienced engineers to help them achieve their career goals
- Stay up to date with emerging trends and technologies in web development, because no one wants to be left behind

Skills and experience:

- At least 6 years of experience building software using PHP and JavaScript
- Experience with back-end tech PHP 8+ and Laravel 10
- The ability to build clean UI using Vue 3, TypeScript and Tailwind CSS
- Working with APIs and integrating third-party services
- Leadership experience with a passion for mentoring software engineers
- Demonstrable experience with Test Driven Development
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Experience working in Agile Scrum and the associated ceremonies
- A passion for doing things the right way.

Preferred experience:

- Building analytics products using big data.
- Familiarity with AWS, GCP or other cloud hosting services.
- Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD setups.
