Overall Position Summary and Objectives

The purpose of this position is to provide scientific support in planning coordination evaluation and communication of research in neuroscience and to conceive design and perform detailed analysis of scientific and/or administrative factors affecting research programs.

Statement of Work Details
  • Develops and assists staff implement policies and procedures related to the organizations scientific programs.

Perform study design management decision making workgroup material reviews and presentations.

Coordinate and document projects from beginning to completion; monitor and report the status of completion funding and results attained; provide progress reports.

Perform a variety of quantitative and qualitative assessment and evaluation activities involved in collection organization analysis preparation processing and reporting of scientific information.

Collaborate with staff on the planning implementation coordination and evaluation of programs and initiatives in the assigned specialty area of research.

NINDS Liaison for the International Alzheimers Disease and Related Dementias Portfolio (IADRP) the National

Institute on Aging database that brings together funded research supported by public and private organizations both in the US and abroad all categorized using the Common Alzheimers and Related

Dementias Research Ontology. IADRP provides an optimal infrastructure utilizing centralized resources to accelerate the development of effective interventions for AD/ADRD.

Track project progress and provide regular reports.

Develop periodic and special reports; search records and files the Internet background materials and precedent references.

Obtain information and data; review and summarize materials and data; gather and coordinate information for review; conduct data entry and file maintenance; edit and/or prepare text data and charts.

Organize and maintain a repository of resources including minutes reports spreadsheets and web pages related to the program.

  • Collects analyzes and creates scientific program information.

Create both internal and external materials in the form of reports summaries emails website content video scripts newsletters and social media.

Plan initiate monitor and conduct administrative/portfolio analyses to evaluate the effectiveness of the program in meeting established goals.

Review and summarize materials and data; gather and coordinate information for review; conduct data entry and file maintenance; edit and/or prepare text data and charts.

Serves as AD/ADRD Liaison and creator of materials including slides for presentations used by the NINDS AD/ADRD Program Lead the NINDS Institute Director and colleagues across the institute.

Collect read interpret analyze and condense material from a variety of sources and prepare reports of data analysis for presentation.

Prepare scientific and programmatic presentation materials such as tables graphs slides abstracts posters and overheads by assimilating and mastering the scientific data and programmatic context for

use at presentations and meetings.

Conduct searches for material for a specific programmatic need and/or presentation; uses a database to search for material as necessary.

Organize existing slides/presentations/talking points into a functional database/library.

Design develop and maintain databases Listservs spreadsheets PowerPoint presentations and other computer applications.

  • Coordinates workshops and reports their outcomes.

Attend and participate in multidisciplinary research team meetings and functions.

Prepare briefing materials and summaries of meetings workshops and conferences.

Use science writing skills to extract science themes and priorities during multidisciplinary science meetings.

Attend review scientific inhouse and various other meetings; provide minutes/reports and selfdirected analysis when requested.

Attend committees and report relevant programmatic and scientific information to Institute leadership.

Take and compile comprehensive notes and organize and edit content of meeting reports.

Plan organize and participate in technical meetings and consultations that convene diverse experts to advance key issues in scientific research.

Track action items and tasks; provide deadline reminders to staff; maintain spreadsheets of relevant information for grants contracts and other programs.

Assess alignment of policymakers interests with the mission and work with staff to develop strategies/opportunities to educate/inform policymakers on relevant scientific education and outreach efforts

Collect information on programs and grants to facilitate identification of scientific overlap and/or duplication future scientific directions workload distribution etc.

Collaborate with staff to plan and carry out special studies and analyses of the research portfolios.

Liaison for AD/ADRD supplement applications and programs. Coordinate answering all questions from Program and external stakeholders including applicants

about these supplement applications (70 per year) and ensure fair and rigorous consideration of those applications including with final approvals of the pay plan from the NINDS ADRD Lead

and the NINDS and NIA Institute Directors.

  • Evaluates current scientific programs and determines if changes need to be made.

Conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses of Institute funded extramural research programs.

Review short and long range planning proposals to ensure alignment with organizational objectives and mission.

Recommend new or changed methods or procedures for monitoring/tracking budgetary information.

Evaluate program activities to identify issues and develop recommendations for improvement.

Develop and implement comprehensive studies of performance measures to evaluate program productivity develop metrics and milestones to assess progress of the program.

Work with staff on existing projects and/or the development initiation and execution of new project initiatives.

Work with staff on the concept development planning execution and support of all projectrelated activities.

Serves as Liaison for rigorous vetting of AD/ADRD RCDC coding for all NIND AD/ADRD pay plans. Screen 1200 applications per year for potential false positive and false negative coding errors

serve as Liaison for informing 50 members of Program about these potential errors answer questions provided guidance resolve each potential issue with agreement from Program stakeholders

AD/ADRD Program leadership and NINDS Institute Director prior to Council approvals and the issuance of awards.

Serves as Liaison for recoding approximately two dozen confirmed AD/ADRD RCDC coding errors per year; coordinate with Program Director AD/ADRD Program leadership Financial Management Branch

and Grants Management Branch to effect successful conclusion of recoding process.

  • Assists with analyzing current scientific programs and developing and proposing new initiatives.

Work with staff on planning and implementing projectbased activities; e.g. workshop planning resource evaluation communication strategy assist with report writing/editing etc.

Liaison for initial draft of NINDS AD/ADRD Program aspect of annual NIH AD/ADRD bypass budget including initiatives and associated estimated costs. Work with AD/ADRD Program Lead and team

including Financial Management Branch to revise and refine in preparation to submit to NINDS Institute Director and then the NIA Institute Director for approval.

Liaison to facilitate AD/ADRD program scientific and administrative input to AD/ADRD initiatives prior to publication at weekly meetings of the Committee for Scientific Implementation (CSI).

Define problems; analyze alternatives; recommend solutions to complete problems affecting the conduct of research programs

Analyze program activities via internal systems and/or NIH systems to identify issues and develop recommendations for improvement.

Research and assemble outlines of new milestone proposals for evaluation by staff.&a
