Intermediate Mechanical Engineer
Kelowna BC

Salary Range $65000 $75000
Job Description

  • Able to work independently on specified scopes with minimal supervision required.
  • Increased leadership responsibilities providing coaching and delegating some design tasks to various individuals depending upon the individual’s aptitude.
  • Mentor and supervise Mechanical Designers and review their work prior to submitting to Senior Mechanical Designer Senior Mechanical Engineers or Project Manager.
  • Placing and sizing of distribution systems and equipment following industry standards and Design Standards and Guidelines.
  • Perform load calculations using company provided software.
  • Selection of mechanical equipment working directly with suppliers and manufacturer’s representatives.
  • Preparation of schematic design design development and construction documents in either AutoCAD or REVIT and adhere to Design Standards and Guidelines.
  • Review your own work for errors and omissions prior to having supervisors review the work. Use the project review checklist and clash detection software to assist in your review for all projects.
  • Assist with the preparation of drawing and book specifications.
  • Coordination of mechanical systems and design with other disciplines.
  • Identify and address the need for additional services and fees to project managers in a timely fashion.
  • Assist with Contract Administration including shop drawing review RFI responses and onsite review.
  • May attend design and construction meetings with the client other consultants and the contractors.
  • Maintain project schedules and project budgets to track work progress and manpower resource utilization with assistance from the Project Manager.
  • Strive to accomplish company goals of highquality workmanship and project timelines through the continual improvement of workflows and design standards.

Performance Metrics

  • Utilization: Billable hours vs Admin Bus Dev and Training. Target 95% utilization rate.
  • Complete at least 30 professional development hour per year
  • Learn AutoCAD Revit and Navisworks tracked by levels: (Beginner Intermediate Expert)
  • Learn Carrier Hap. Tracked by Levels: (Beginner Intermediate Expert)
  • Write and Review Specifications by Level: (Beginner Intermediate Expert)
  • Time Sheets are submitted on time
  • All project deadlines are met including design review prior to issuance
  • Completes scopes of work within budgeted hours
  • Completed Drawing review checklist prior to printing a set for supervisor’s review. Drawing review checklist is to be signed and dated when completed for tracking purposes.
  • Performed clash detection at predetermined intervals. Reports are saved and dated for tracking purposes.
  • Ensures that design and drafting issues raised by clients other design professionals and or senior staff are addressed without additional corrections required
  • Errors or omissions from review of scope of work including delegated tasks are minimal especially for drafting standards
  • Drafting and design standards are followed on a consistent basis

Experience & Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering and accreditation as a Professional Engineer: P. Eng. or PE in the jurisdiction in which they are working.
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Experience in mechanical HVAC and Plumbing design is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems including plumbing HVAC heating cooling air handlers and fire protection. Ability to interpret construction drawings.
  • Strong knowledge of current codes and standards such as the local plumbing and local building codes.
  • Strong understanding of Reinbold design and documentation standards.
  • Understanding of the principals behind building heating and cooling load calculations.
  • Understanding of software programs (Microsoft Office Bluebeam AutoCAD REVIT etc.).
