Job Description

ZOE Institute for Futurefit Economies is an independent think & do tank active at the EU level. We are dedicated to policyoriented research and evidencedriven advocacy for a futurefit economy. At the interface of politics research and civil society in the EU we develop impulses for an economy that enables people to live well within planetary boundaries. Tasks

As the European Union embarks on a new institutional cycle amidst a politically polarised landscape we are committed to navigating complex challenges while upholding the ambition of a just transition.

With this goal in mind the trainee will support the Rethinking governance in the EU project and the development of new initiatives in the area of social policy at the EU level (particularly in relation to basic services). These projects are at the heart of the ZOE Institute futurefit agenda that is exploring the challenges that arise while reconciling tensions between complex policy issues of green and just transition.

As part of a motivated and impactdriven team you will carry out a variety of tasks including:

  • Background research and analysis on various topics
  • Drafting content for reports policy briefs and other publications
  • Preparation of presentations and key documents
  • Preparing briefings for key stakeholder meetings
  • Organisational tasks including project management and planning
  • Monitoring of current economic policy events and debates
  • Support in the organization of events (physical and online)
  • Support ZOEs project teams in their work

Requirements

We are looking for people that share our core principles: value orientation sustainability agility selforganisation. Your profile would include the following skills background and knowledge:

  • Current masters student or recent graduate with a masters degree in public policy/ administration political science political economy economics (or equivalent knowledge and skills acquired through other demonstrable means) with at least 6 (cumulative) months of other professional experience such as an internship; OR Bachelors degree with at least 2 years relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with EU policymaking process and the EU institutional set up and preferably effective governance principles
  • Great organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Proactive and responsive with ability to quickly understand complex content and tasks
  • Strong research and analytical skills knowledge of how to find information quickly and efficiently
  • Basic understanding of and interest in social policy new economic thinking sustainability EU policy circular economy etc.
  • Experience in events organisation (physical and online)
  • Attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English. Native speakers are highly encouraged to apply
  • Must have the right to work in Belgium for the duration of the traineeship.

Conditions

The contract is 3240 hours per week for six months with flexible working hours to be arranged. The position will start as soon as possible and latest April 1st 2024. The trainee must be based in or willing to relocate at their own expense to Brussels. Work can be performed from home with the possibility to work from our offices several days per week.

The gross monthly salary for 40 hours per week is 2151 euros prorated for fewer hours. The remuneration for this position is based on our internal salary framework informed by the collective agreement of the public service of the Lnder. For a fulltime (40 hours) position the trainee will be offered 2.5 paid vacation days per month. This is 15 days over a sixmonth traineeship.
