Job Summary: Purchasing Manager
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for driving results by leading the purchasing team. This includes supervising and coordinating all the purchasing for material (production and nonproduction) as well as contracts leases license agreements vendor contracts etc. to ensure costsavings.
This company manufactures and sells hightech electronics/control devices/power systems for the defense and aerospace industry.
Their key responsibilities include:
- Strategic Planning and Budgeting:
- Develop plans and budgets for the Purchasing Department.
- Direct activities in line with approved operations plans.
- Staff Supervision and Development:
- Oversee staff assign functional roles and conduct individual performance reviews.
- Create development plans based on company guidelines.
- Objective Setting:
- Recommend short and longrange objectives for the department.
- Performance Monitoring and Corrective Action:
- Establish and maintain controls to promptly identify unfavorable performance indicators.
- Initiate corrective action plans to align results with objectives.
- Production Coordination:
- Ensure production schedules meet profit cost and volume objectives.
- Collaborate with external functions and suppliers.
- Ethical Procurement Practices:
- Conduct all procurement activities in the company s best interest.
- Adhere to local state and government regulations for small business/minority contract awards.
- Supply Chain Management:
- Analyze trends in materials and supply prices.
- Recommend volume purchase schedules and quantities.
- Expand supplier sources.
- Contract Management:
- Supervise negotiation and execution of purchase contracts.
- Monitor delivery schedules and expediting.
- Policy and Procedure Recommendations:
- Determine and recommend purchasing policies within delegated authority.
- Align with divisional policies and procedures.
- Document Compliance:
- Ensure all processed documents (material capital leases etc.) adhere to company guidelines.
- Vendor Relations:
- Establish communication channels with vendors suppliers and sales representatives.
- Discuss new products address issues and maintain vendor relationships.
Remember this role may involve occasional travel to meet partners and attend facilities.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications
- Education and Experience:
- Bachelor s degree or 10 years of relevant experience in purchasing/inventory within a manufacturing environment.
- Supervisory and Management Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years in purchasing supervisory and/or management roles with increasing responsibility.
- Industry Knowledge:
- Aerospace industry experience is essential.
- Strategic Planning and Execution:
- Proven track record of developing implementing and executing strategic plans through effective people leadership.
- Utilize continuous improvement tools and processes.
- Leadership and Adaptability:
- Change agent who thrives on business and personal growth opportunities.
- Strong interpersonal skills for policy interpretation and communication.
- Ability to lead crossorganizational teams.
- Technical Familiarity:
- Knowledge of aerospace or manufacturing processes products and requirements.
- Organizational Skills:
- Selfdirected and adaptable to changing priorities and assignments.
- ERP Systems Experience:
- Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as SAP Oracle or ERPSyteLine.
- Critical Thinking and Communication:
- Strong leadership organizational and communication skills.
- Good judgment and critical thinking abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office:
- Strong skills in Outlook Word Excel and PowerPoint.
