Position Summary:

This role is pivotal for leading our development efforts toward an eventsdriven highly scalable architecture while maintaining a constant focus on agile reengineering and refactoring. We seek a leader who can blend strategic architectural planning with handson team guidance leveraging opensource tools and IaaS platforms to deliver cuttingedge solutions.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Architect Advanced API Solutions: Design and prototype scalable and efficient API architectures using a mix of modern programming languages (Python Node.js) frameworks (Django Flask Spring Boot) and API development tools (SwaggerUI Postman).

  • Lead Fullstack Development: Offer handson leadership to a fullstack development team driving the creation of an eventdriven architecture. Youll be responsible for the constant reengineering and refactoring of systems to ensure simplicity and effectiveness.

  • Strategic System Planning: Utilize prototyping and proof of concepts for system architecture planning including modern frontend web programming techniques (HTML5 CSS3 ES6) and integration of eventdriven APIs.

  • Database and Configuration Management: Implement and manage relational (e.g. PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g. Cassandra MongoDB) ensuring robust data storage solutions. Familiarize the team with automated configuration management version control (e.g. GitLab) and continuous monitoring solutions.

  • Open Source and Cloud Deployment: Leverage opensource solutions for system deployment on IaaS providers enhancing our infrastructures agility and robustness. Ensure familiarity with container platforms for the cloud (Docker Fargate serverless).

  • Product Roadmap and User Stories: Collaborate with the Product Owner to develop product roadmaps backlogs and measurable success criteria. Your role includes writing meaningful user stories to guide product development effectively.

  • Knowledge Sharing and Agile Methodology: Promote an environment of transparent knowledge sharing across a multidisciplinary team. Your leadership will embody agile methodologies fostering collaborative and innovative project development.

  • DevSecOps and Technical Infrastructure: Ensure the health of the DevSecOps pipeline and manage the tech stack framework and API infrastructure decisions crafting a robust architecture for developers and consumers alike.



Requirements

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science Engineering Information Systems Mathematics Business Accounting or related degree.

  • 10 years of total work experience in systems development

  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance

  • Department of Interior / USGS Experience

  • The ideal candidate will bring a proven track record of leading teams in the delivery of APIcentric projects that support or enhance the operational capabilities of federal agencies particularly those focused on environmental research natural resource management or geographical sciences.

  • Complex Technology Management: Experience serving as the manager of complex technology implementations with a focus on developing scalable secure API architectures within the governmental sector. Familiarity with the regulatory security and compliance frameworks specific to federal agencies like the USGS is highly valued.

  • Technical Leadership: Demonstrated handson leadership for a fullstack development team with a proven track record in agile methodologies.

  • Strategic and Technical Proficiency: Deep understanding of how to leverage opensource solutions and deploy systems on IaaS platforms with a solid foundation in both SQL and NoSQL databases continuous integration/deployment and cloud container technologies.

  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication skills capable of engaging effectively with a wide range of digital delivery disciplines talent and stakeholders at every level.

  • Problemsolving: Ability to conduct root cause analysis and develop effective solutions maintaining strategic alignment of technical designs with business growth.
