Position Overview
A Diesel Mechanic inspects diagnoses repairs and maintains dieselpowered machines and pile driving equipment vehicles and trucks. Their main duties include running diagnostic tests on vehicles replacing engines transmission steering mechanisms or braking system and testing repaired equipment to determine if they properly fixed the maintenance issue. The mechanic may be involved in repair of equipment on job sites involving some limited travel away from the base workstation.
Key Responsibilities
Diesel Mechanics will perform quality repairs and maintenance on all heavy equipment and diesel Engines as specified in manufacturer designed procedures or accepted industry practices.
Diesel Mechanics will accurately complete all paperwork including repair information on work orders information for state inspections etc.
Dedication and adherence to all company and industry safety standards.
Consulting the customer and reading work orders to evaluate the tasks required.
Preparing work plans after fully scoping out the issues.
Running diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpreting the results to offer suitable solutions.
Inspecting vehicle systems including suspension steering and exhausts.
Repairing or replacing vehicle transmissions brakes engines and other associated parts.
Conducting field visits in case of an emergency or sudden breakdown.
Test driving repaired vehicles to gauge their performance.
Completing oil changes wheel balancing alignment and brake checks.
Maintaining records of parts inventory and serviced vehicles.
Qualifications
High school diploma/GED preferred.
Diesel repair and maintenance experience in a heavy truck / DOT compliance.
Factory trained certifications preferred.
Knowledge of A/C system brake system emission systems air systems and diagnostics/troubleshooting of diesel engines and trailer assemblies.
Basic computer skills with ability to use diagnostic programs.
Must have a valid drivers license with a clean driving record.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes night and weekend shifts.
Must be able to pass a drug test background check and MVR check.
Physical Requirements
Stand or walk for long periods of time.
Use arms and hands to reach for handle or manipulate objects.
Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift items weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance.
Climb up and down ladders scaffolds and other objects.
Stoop kneel crouch and crawl.
See well (naturally or with correction).
Eyehand coordination.
Good physical fitness.
Good sense of balance.
Work at great heights.
