At The Wise Seeker we are looking for a Occupational Therapist to work with one of our clients located in the UK: a small independent day school for neurodivergent children and young people aged from 7 to 19 who have a primary diagnosis of Autism.
Location: Finchley/Muswell Hill
The successful candidate will only be required to work 40 weeks per year.
The post holder will also work closely with education colleagues and the SLT to provide appropriate OT input and training as well as contribute to our holistic approach to mental and physical wellbeing within the school.
The successful candidate will work with our neurodivergent young people who present with sensory mental health and special educational needs associated with their diagnosis of autism. Many of our students have additional diagnoses of ADHD dyslexia and DCD.
Tasks
- To facilitate Occupational Therapy interventions to a defined caseload working with an agreed degree of autonomy and independence with regular support/supervision from the Therapy Team Lead and an external clinical supervisor (as required).
- Provide supervision for OT and OT assistant.
- Conduct initial parent/carer meetings to determine case history and needs.
- Facilitate initial assessment sessions employing appropriate assessment methods to determine needs.
- Plan prepare deliver and evaluate support programmes for pupils and oversee individual programmes.
- Provide individualised targets as part of each pupils IEP in consultation with parents and teaching staff.
- Report on the development progress and attainment of pupils and maintain records of interventions.
- To keep confidential clinical casenotes for each student in line with professional standards.
- To write reports to contribute to Annual Review meetings.
- To maintain regular communication with parents teaching staff and MDT to support a joined up approach around students.
- To contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings student focus meetings and class meetings to share information and provide appropriate strategies.
- To deliver staff training including Occupational Therapy induction for new staff.
Requirements
- You must hold a BSc or MSc in Occupational Therapy
- You must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and be a registered practicing member of RCOT
- Relevant experience working with autistic children and young people
- Experience working within school settings
- Knowledge of competencies/standards framework required for the relevant therapy discipline
