We are looking for a Linux administrator who will be responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring the infrastructure; also, to collaborate with other team members to develop automation strategies and deployment processes. You will become an integral part of the team, making every problem of the platform a problem of your own, and solving them accordingly.
Position: Linux System Administrator
Location: Washington, DC. (REMOTE)
Clearance: Candidates must be US Citizens or permanent residents
Duration:6 month contract (possible extension)
Help tune performance and ensure high availability of infrastructure
Design and develop infrastructure monitoring and reporting tools
Develop and maintain configuration management solutions
Develop test automation frameworks in collaboration with rest of the team
Create tools to help teams make the most out of the available infrastructure
Analyzes, logs, tracks and resolves complex software/hardware matters of significance pertaining to networking connectivity issues, printer, servers, and applications to meet business needs.
Coordinates hardware/software installations and upgrades to ensure work is properly performed in accordance with company policy. Recommends resolution to complex matters of significance and coordinates the implementation of the approved course of action.
Coordinates and monitors troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common system problems; documents system events to ensure continuous functioning. Recommends course of action and implements as approved.
Oversees the installation of client department-specific applications and systems. Ensures installations are in accordance with appropriate operating procedures; determines revisions or updates to installation as needed.
Coordinates testing, upgrades and configuration of system files and services. Ensures changes are in accordance with appropriate operating procedures; recommends revisions or changes based upon results. Prepares for and prescribes approaches to possible downstream implications.
Utilizes standard corporate tools to record change and problem activities for tracking purposes
Experience with Linux servers in virtualized environments
Familiarity with the fundamentals of Linux scripting languages
Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining services such as Bind, Apache, MySQL, nginx, etc.
Strong grasp on configuration management tools, such as Puppet and Chef
Familiarity with load balancing, firewalls, etc.
Proficient with network tools such as iptables, Linux IPVS, HAProxy, etc.
Experience with virtualization technologies, such as Xen
Ability to build and monitor services on production servers
Knowledge of servers and switches
Experienced with tasks to install, upgrade, and maintain enterprise level Linux operating systems
Experienced with tasks to provision and allocate storage from enterprise level external storage arrays and Storage Array Networks (SANs), including command line hands-on from end to end beginning with LUN provisioning at the array level up to partition allocation at the OS level
Experienced in enterprise level data replication technologies for disaster recovery
Experienced to install and maintain enterprise level server chassis/enclosures, virtual connect modules
Experienced to install and maintain enterprise level hypervisor software on new and existing server hardware
Team player with excellent communications skills, have a great attitude and will work off hours and on-site all weekdays
Self-starter, resourceful, self-learner, and persistent trouble shooter
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
Five (5) years hands-on experience in Linux-based operating systems and disk array storage administration
