Job Description

The Independent Commission for Aid Impact (ICAI) works at the heart of the UK’s international development effort, providing independent scrutiny of the effectiveness of all UK government aid, which was more than £12 billion in 2022. ICAI’s work is high profile, examining key strategic issues facing the UK’s development programmes, and reviewing the breadth of the UK’s aid priorities, from Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict and Tackling Fraud, to Afghanistan, and Refugees in the UK. ICAI supports Parliament to hold the Government to account for the impact and value for money of those programmes.

The Chief Commissioner works independently of Government, leading a Board of two other Commissioners and a dedicated Secretariat team to undertake thematic reviews on strategic issues faced by the UK Government’s aid spending, make recommendations to the Government, and present ICAI’s work to a range of audiences. Key relationships include the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), and Parliament’s International Development Committee (IDC).
