Job Description

The GSE Workshop Team leader reports to the Base & Component Maintenance Manager and is an experienced and skilled Mechanical or Electrical/Avionic Ground Support Engineer undertaking and supervising a wide range of scheduled & unscheduled maintenance & repair activities across a wide range of aircraft ground equipment. Must have the ability to work effectively efficiently and safely fault finding by employing diagnostic techniques. Must be able to effectively manage multiple tasks using their team to help discharge the work.

The post holder will be able to demonstrate excellent management skills awareness of Health and Safety the hazards and risks when undertaking maintenance tasks ensuring staff are taking all necessary precautions. Needs to be aware of their and their team s impact to the flying programme the broader external dependencies and identifies areas for continuous improvement.


Core Duties

  • Understand and be cognisant of the regulatory environment they are operating in and ensure the Acceptable Means of Compliance documents that govern Part 145 activities are used.
  • Manage scheduled and unscheduled maintenance inspection and repair activities on the components in the GSE bay and across site. Ensuring all work carried out by the team has been completed in accordance with the using the relevant approved technical information in the Vendor manuals. Resolving faults and maintenance issues including an awareness spares consumption and stock replenishment / reordering.
  • Manage undertaking fault diagnostic activities of GSE components which may include as appropriate component removals inspections repairs modifications fault rectifications replacements and/or functional/system test.
  • Demonstrates a flexible and proactive attitude to carrying out responsibilities appropriate to the role and provides direction appropriately.
  • Supervise & lead the completion of support tasks within the GSE bay facility / across site which are required to maintain compliance with the MOE and regulatory procedures (e.g. oversight checks control of tooling / Calibration checks on test equipment etc.)
  • Undertake fault evaluation and raise ad hoc work cards for found faults .
  • Ensure the teams time is booked to the correct jobs.
  • Responsible for meeting agreed delivery targets in the short to medium term.
  • Progress reporting against delivery targets to senior management.
  • Ensure the team keep up to date with all authorisations proving currency through Log Books appropriate within trade and skills boundaries.
  • Demonstrates sound and comprehensive communication and customer awareness skills in order to exchange and deal with / hand over complicated information.

Key Accountabilities

  • Performance indicators Ensure the effective management of Part 145 activities by setting delivery targets monitoring progress and developing performance improvement programmes. Prioritises activities within/across teams to maximise efficiency. Represents the Maintenance Manager at management reviews where necessary. Responsible for the assessment of escalated issues for any impact on Continuing Airworthiness and generating effective resolution or sponsoring escalation to management as appropriate.

  • Completion of activities Ensure all Part 145 activities are appropriately documented and airworthiness records are maintained on relevant systems (IT / paper based). Ensure all Part 145 activities are performed by suitably qualified experienced and authorised personnel. Ensure the integration of Part 145 activity within the business including the engagement of key stakeholders at all stages of the process. Provide support and guidance to the team(s).

  • Safety Management System Promote the application of human factors error management risk management and safety assurance within the Part 145 team together with the proactive analysis mitigation and management of hazards

  • Procedure/standards Manage the Part 145 team(s) compliance with the Part 145 Exposition its associated procedures and standards and any other Company procedures and standards as applicable. Identify propose and implement change as required whilst ensuring compliance.

  • Management System Assurance Ensure maintenance activities are compliant with the Governance and Assurance framework including supporting Process confirmations and independent assurance audits. Support the response to audit findings in a timely and appropriate manner and provide information to support the relevant reviews. Support the implementation of identified improvements to overcome any noncompliance and monitor effectiveness. Undertake and lead selfaudits.

  • Statutory/Regulatory & Legislative requirements Able to demonstrate an appropriate level of understanding and application of the relevant continuing airworthiness regulatory framework. Support the implementation of any regulatory driven changes into the maintenance activities. Ensure compliance with all other requirements e.g. ITAR EaPW ISO


  • Contractual Requirements Comply with all applicable contractual requirements

Experience

  • Completion of an Engineering Apprenticeship ideally in Aeronautical Engineering or Military equivalent apprenticeship / qualifications. Academic qualification for this role is a minimum of City & Guilds 2675 or 2661 in Aeronautical Engineering and Maintenance or equivalent
  • Competent Supervisor with a minimum of 2 years experience prior to undertaking this role.
  • Demonstrating breadth of experience currency & recency capturing skills knowledge and authorities.
  • Practical experience and expertise in the application of Aviation safety standards and safe operating practices.
  • An awareness of Expositions Functionally Mandated Procedures and Management training.
  • Human Factors E&PW ITAR & Fire Training Awareness.
  • Ability to provide OTJ training to junior team members.
  • UK Driving licence.



Requirements

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a recognised qualification to NVQ3/ONC level in a relevant Technical discipline.
  • Good to strong quantitative and analytical skills/experience with Lean management principles.
  • Effective credible communicator with good interpersonal skills.
  • Requires product knowledge and a good understanding of the relationship with interfacing / contributory areas.
  • Able to analyse and interpret data with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Comprehensive understanding of current IT software packages used within the Fleet Planning and Maintenance Tasking & Verification disciplines.
  • Understanding of Project Management techniques.
  • Able to build good relationships with Customers Part 145 Organisation(s) OEMs Suppliers and other key stakeholders personnel..
  • IT Literate.

Qualifications Academic qualification for this role is a minimum of City & Guilds 2675 or 2661 in Aeronautical Engineering and Maintenance or equivalent.
