Job Description

Lanpro is a market leading multidisciplinary consultancy who specialise in Planning Design and the Environment.

The company works on projects at all scales within town semirural and rural contexts across a variety of sectors that includes residential historic sites and estates renewable energy and mixeduse commercial developments.

As part of our growth and forever evolving proposition we are looking for an Associate Director level to join their highly efficient and growing Planning team. Applicants for this role will work on projects throughout the UK but with the core workload currently coming in from Cambridge and the Eastern region it would be ideal if you were suitably located in Norwich.


Job Purpose

As a Planner you will provide support to the wider planning team on planning applications and projects. With the support of colleagues you will develop core competencies to help you consolidate your technical skills and confidence as you build your career.

Key Responsibilities

Developing ourselves and others

  • Awareness of financial management client relationship and business development skill requirements and is developing these.
  • Assists in development / mentoring of team members to reach their full potential as well as continuing to focus on their own CPD.
  • Communicates fluently and can effectively present technical information to a nontechnical audience.
  • Likely to be responsible and / or supervise less experienced staff.
  • Operates at an experienced competent professional level undertaking complex technical or professional work activities under minimal supervision but knows when to refer to someone else.

  • Develops good client contractor and supplier relationships as well as having an internal network of colleagues who they collaborate effectively with to ensure the most successful outcome for the project/client.
  • Demonstrates clear leadership and technical capability with the ability to influence and persuade others at all levels.
  • Able to prepare and present clearly cogently and convincingly to a variety of audiences using a variety of different media.
  • Builds and consolidates networks within the industry and across Lanpro to enhance understanding & knowledge of expertise.
  • Is an ambassador for ensuring a great client experience whether it is internal or external.

  • Contributes positively to bids proposals and project briefs and is proactive is making recommendations towards these.
  • Understands the business strategy has knowledge of their area of work business plan regional business plan and where their role fits within these.
  • Able to generate ideas from team members as well as putting forward ideas which can help improve the business by suggesting new ways of working or better use of technology.

Delivering our projects

  • Responsible for daytoday management of section or project budgets including WIP on projects within area of responsibility.
  • Understands the importance of financial success and takes responsibility to act in the interest of achieving it.
  • Responsible for interpreting organising researching analysing and executing a major project and or medium scale projects.
  • Provides fee control technical direction and effectively manages senior client liaison.
  • Provides guidance on complex technical issues to ensure projects are delivered within budget and on time.
  • Manages medium projects or several small ones with complex features.
  • Drafting and managing planning applications preapplication enquiries and appeals.
  • Undertaking basic planning appraisals and research
  • Provision of guidance to engineers/architects on the production of drawings and supplemental planning information in relation to planning submissions
  • Preparation of fee proposals to generate new business.
  • Review of Local Planning Authority (LPA) Local Plans and their stage of production.
  • Managing clients throughout the planning process.
  • Assisting and managing community engagement committee meetings and public examinations.
  • Communicating with all stakeholders involved in the planning process and negotiating positive outcomes for the client.
  • Site visits and client meetings.

Qualifications & Experience

  • An RTPI accredited degree or Masters in a related discipline
  • Preferably a chartered member of the Royal Town Planning Institute or be working towards it.
  • At least a year working in the planning industry in either the public or privates sectors.
