Job Description

The Qualified Synthetic Flying Instructor (QSFI) role has supervisory and instructional responsibilities.


Supervisory responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the manager for the other aircrew instructors who may be BAES/BSL or RAF/ Qatari Emiri Air Force (QEAF).
  • Liaison with synthetic device manufacturers suppliers and maintainers to maintain synthetic capability and availability to deliver synthetic training efficiently and maximize throughput for 11 Sqn QEAF.
  • Responsibility for ensuring that the standard of output of the Aircrew Training Facility (ATF) meets the regulatory training standard.
  • Ensuring that all trainees (staff and students) meet the requisite standard of performance and signing to state that they are fully trained to an appropriate level.
  • Liaising with the wider organisation to:
  • Carry out trainee course planning i.e. dates rates of progress etc.
  • Give updates on trainee standards and course progress.
  • Working closely with the customer to ensure that the building facilities are of the requisite standard and liaising with appropriate organisation to endeavor to make any changes that are necessary.
  • Liaising with outside agencies such as Central Flying School to maintain standards and to implement relevant policies.

Instructional responsibilities include:
  • Providing and supporting the delivery of groundschool and synthetic training instruction to: QEAF and RAF ab initio pilot trainees; BAE and RAF aircrew instructors; and trainee QSFIs.
  • The provision of classroombased and synthetic instruction administration of the Training Management Information System producing postsynthetic mission report forms and supporting the maintenance of the syllabus and courseware.
  • Acting as the Instructor Operating Station Operator providing simulated Air Traffic and Fighter Control services scenario and mission management .
  • Supporting the supervision of junior pilots and perform additional duties as directed by Officer Commanding (OC) 11 Squadron (Sqn) QEAF. The incumbent will also be expected to conduct groundbased duties in direct support of the facility s daytoday operations some of which may not be directly flyingrelated.

The role includes the provision of a broad scope of aircrew SME advice and expertise as tasked by OC 11 Sqn QEAF. This support would include but not be limited to overseeing the development of syllabi training material and documents that directly relate to the successful delivery of Hawk MK167 operations at RAF Leeming.

The role will based at RAF Leeming and the successful QSFI will be employed on a Fixed Term 12 month contract.



Core Activity

  • Supervise the Hawk Mk167 QSFIs at RAF Leeming and ensure that the requisite training standards are maintained.
  • Hawk Mk167 QSFI in support of the RAF Leeming training task.
  • QSFI for the delivery of Hawk Mk167 ground school and synthetic training to ab initio instructors and refresher pilots.
  • Hawk Mk167 synthetic training SME.
  • Establish an effective working relationship with key stakeholders: the QEAF RAF MOD and the Qatar Programme Office export user community engineering teams and contract owners.
  • Management and support of the capture of aircrew training requirements to include the customer s concept of operations operational environment and training aspirations and preferences.
  • Support the development of design concepts and technology enhancements through iterative evaluation on synthetic training devices.

  • Understand and follow the risk assessments.
  • Be responsible for their own personal safety maintaining their safety training currency.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to the contents of the relevant CONOPS documentation & Maintenance Safety Management Plan.
  • Ensure that the devices are safe to use when handed over for Customer use.
  • Report all accidents incidents and nearmiss events in accordance with the Maintenance organisations safety management processes & procedures.
  • Assist in the control of visiting Contractors.

Key Deliverables

  • Supervision and authorisation of training activities as set out in the 11 Sqn QEAF Order JO2306 JO2375 and customer Regulations and Orders
  • Ground based instruction and instructional support
  • Independent/autonomous execution of some aspects of the role
  • SQEP advice to projects
  • SQEP input to project safety committees
  • Compliance with applicable regulations

Knowledge/Experience

  • Exmilitary pilot instructor and senior supervisor/manager
  • Minimum of 1000 hours on fast jet aircraft
  • Minimum A2 Category QFI (or equivalent)
  • Hawk instructional experience within last 5 years
  • Understanding of the RAF Flight Safety system and sound working knowledge of Company PSMS processes
  • Understanding of Hawk future requirements




Requirements

  • Experienced as military aircrew with instructional experience and qualifications
  • Experience of the management of training and operational activities
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of the use of MS Office and related software.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the application of industry and customer training techniques for aircrew training.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of managing internal and external organisations in the delivery of programmes within budget timescale and quality targets.
  • Extensive experience in the management of staff covering professional development reviews objective setting management of discipline and conflict resolution ethics and diversity and inclusivity skills development and mentoring.
  • Current or recent A Category Hawk instructor pilot (or equivalent) qualified to perform all types of training Simulator Instructor
  • Previous Advanced Flying Training and Tactical qualifications e.g. QFI Qualified Weapons Instructor Electronic Warfare Instructor Air Combat Lead

Qualifications Academic qualification for this role is a minimum of City & Guilds 2675 or 2661 in Aeronautical Engineering and Maintenance or equivalent. Typically, 2+ years experience in aircraft maintenance Requires general product knowledge/competency within own technical/subject area and a basic knowledge of those elements in other areas. Awareness of how the team integrates with others in order to achieve the overall objectives of the area and demonstrates an understanding of the requirement for continuous improvement and its application. Hawk Composite Flight Servicing- Pass. (Desirable) Hawk Trade Q Course- Pass. (Desirable) Leadership- Foundation. (Desirable) Human Factors- Standard Course Specification. E&PW Awareness- Standard Course Specification. (Desirable) ITAR Awareness- Standard Course Specification. (Desirable) IT Literate.
