Job Description

Job Summary:

The Ortho Service Quality Technician coordinates with the OR schedule and assures effective utilization of surgical instruments. This role participates in the development and implementation and through put of policies and procedures as they pertain to the care and handling of surgical instrumentation.


Job Function

Ability to acquire a thorough knowledge of the principles of aseptic technique and to apply these principles when carrying out the various assignments in Sterile Processing and Surgical Services.


Principal Responsibilities:


A. Clinical/Technical/Service


Fosters a professional productive and effective relationship other departments through open communication and constructive feedback.

Collaborates with support services to create an environmental optimal for the delivery of services.

Assists initiates and participates in committee activity.

Ensures ongoing communication with the leadership of PeriOperative Services.

Keep track of case flow during the day and notify the Sterile Processing Department in advance of additional needs.

Assist with the planning and coordination of instrument turnarounds and communicate with the surgical team regarding information that may affect surgery start time

Review the accuracy of surgical trays and resolve any discrepancies that may arise

Perform data analysis to understand trends and identify operational issues within the Operating Room and Sterile Processing Department

Ensure quality of care by assisting in the cleaning and maintenance of instrumentation

Demonstrates the ability to perform clinical/technical/service/administrative tasks:

Rooms turn over limited to packing of used surgical instrumentation Coordinates the delivery quality control and cleaning and decontamination of surgical instrumentation.

Investigates and takes appropriate action when employee accidents occur and takes preventive action to prevent further occurrences.

Maintains delivery of services congruent to standards of practice policies and procedures to achieve compliance with regulatory agencies.

Participates in the department budgeting process.

Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of the Central Sterile Processing Department personnel and materials.

Reviews and analyzes trends of case cart usage.

Participates in the department s performance improvement activities.

Observes the Health Care System s compliance policies.

Reviews the utilization of staff and distributes responsibilities to maximize performance and productivity.

Recommends and justifies need for new items for surgical use.

Serves as a resource person for staff within the Central Sterile Processing Department and the Operating Room

Upholds safe environment by monitoring cleanliness potential hazards and electrical safety within the Central Sterile Processing Department.

Works collaboratively with other departments for the improvement of service in the department of Central Sterile Processing.

Participates in the development of other staff members.

Meets regulatory licensure and annual health assessment requirements.

Utilizes learning resources.

Keeps customer informed of new items purpose function and responsibility for care.

Displays courtesy tact and patience during interactions with all members of the hospital staff and extended community.




Requirements

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:


Sterile processing Operating Room Hospital Management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

IAHCSMM or CBSPD Central Sterile Processing Technician Certification or a substantially equivalent credential or working toward certification compliance.


Preferred Qualifications:


Knowledge of specific health care products patient care equipment and basic use is required.

Must hold comprehensive knowledge in inventory control supply distribution receiving reprocessing techniques and principles production management and regulating agencies standards.

Must hold comprehensive knowledge and experience in surgical instrumentation microbiology as it relates to SPD and OR cleaning procedures disinfection sterilization and the care handling disassembly and assembly of hospital equipment and surgical instruments.

A good knowledge of medical terminology including surgical procedures human anatomy and of current and developing trends in area of professional expertise is required.

Must have a good working knowledge of computer technology and software programs including work processing spreadsheets and power point applications.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Knowledge in Instrument Tracking Systems

2 year relevant work experience and/or training in lieu of Associate Degree

1 year relevant work experience with Associate Degree

Requires thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and is capable of learning software programs and/or hardware as required. Requires Smart Phone knowledge.

Certified in related field or ability to obtain certification within 12 months required.

Knowledge of OR workflow procedures medical terminology instrumentation.

Knowledge of infection control and health & safety policies and procedures.

Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor coworkers and all levels of a hospital including the Operating Room and physicians.

Demonstrated customer centric behavior. Proficient analytical skills.

Demonstrated ability to identify plan and resolve issues in complex situations.

Ability to multitask projects including the ability to plan and organize.

Flexible and selfmotivated.

Ability to read and understand applicable Standard Operating Procedures.
