Job Description

The role of the Business Development Manager (BDM) is to identify, create, develop and secure business opportunities. They will also support the development and implementation of BSL UK limited strategy, communications and events and wider BSL strategy and objectives.


The role will report to the Director, BSL UK but will take functional guidance from the BSL Service Hub, Head of BD & Strategy in Qatar. They will also be required to liaise with the wider UK & Qatar Service Hub team, including HR, Finance, Commercial & Procurement (C&P) and Legal, to assure alignment, strategy delivery and customer satisfaction.

The BDM will represent BSL UK and promote the wider BSL vision and strategy with current and emerging customers and exploit opportunities in parallel and adjacent lines of business.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support development of UK business strategy and ensure alignment with BSL strategy and objectives
  • Execute business development processes.
  • Conduct market and competitor analysis and explore future business opportunities.
  • Support strategies to meet or exceed annual goals and objectives in the areas of growth.
  • Establish and develop relationships with key decision makers from current and potential customer organisations.
  • Broker and arrange business meetings with prospective clients.
  • Successfully exploit and negotiate opportunities.
  • Represent the business through appropriate professional associations and supporting organisations.
  • Prepare and deliver opportunity briefings for SLT and board approval in line with Business principles.
  • Support relationships with marketing / public relations firms and strategic partnerships.
  • Engage with UK and wider Qatar team to understand finance and commercial models.
Key Accountabilities

  • Conduct research and analysis to identify and develop new opportunities in parallel and adjacent markets, understand customer needs and achieve business growth.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with new and existing customers.
  • Explore and develop business opportunities across UK with current and new customers.
  • Promoting and supporting BSL vision and strategy in the UK market place.


Requirements

  • Detailed understanding of UK marketplace and current primary customer.
  • Keen interest and knowledge in UK business practices.
  • Ability to represent BSL UK Limited in business engagement.
  • An established network of contacts / clients.
  • Proven business development / sales / marketing skills and sales experience.
  • Excellent & demonstrable customer engagement skills.
  • Communication, negotiation skills and competent presentation skills.
  • Time management and planning skills.
  • Current or recent experience in the Defence/Security sectors.
  • Proficient in all MS applications.
  • Degree in Business / Humanities advantageous.
  • Experience in UK MoD contracting and business processes advantageous.
  • Demonstrable experience in Business Development.
