Job Description

Role Title - Pre-Employment Tutor - Construction - CSCS

Area - PET

Reports to - Head of PET Delivery

Role Description:

To provide expert teaching and learning across the Construction pre-employment adult learning provision with the primary focus of ensuring the candidate has the highest quality construction skills to deliver effective teaching and learning for our learners. The role would also involve working with the Head of Pre-Employment Training and the Quality teams to develop and deliver the highest level of construction training for learners. The post holder would deliver an outstanding learning experience on behalf of our client to learners in preparation for their next steps.

The key responsibilities for this role are:

In common with all other staff:

Summary of main purpose of role:

  1. Delivering online training to groups of learners working towards an accredited qualification.
  2. Identify learners' strengths and weaknesses through initial assessment and support them accordingly.
  3. The successful candidate will be flexible with their delivery methods within the online setting and be able to adapt quickly to learners' needs.
  4. The successful candidate must be engaging and able to demonstrate energy and passion to motivate/train learners to help them realize their potential.
  5. As part of the teaching and learning, you will be required to assist learners with all aspects of the course and deliver advice and guidance to enable learners to make informed decisions about their future goals.
  6. You will follow TLA plans but have the flair to make them your own, and deliver encouraging, nurturing, and motivating training.

Learner Support:

  1. Work with individuals and/or groups of learners who require additional support both in classroom-based activities and in the community.
  2. Support learners to improve their everyday maths, English, and ICT skills.
  3. Devise flexible and innovative ways to engage individual learners with support from colleagues.
  4. Provide quality careers/employability support and embedded information, advice, and guidance to learners.
  5. Implement strategies and support learners in self-esteem and confidence-building activities.
  6. Drawing up agreed action plans with learners, outlining the aims of the program, and monitoring their progress.

Record keeping:

  1. Ensure records of support provided are maintained and agree methods of working with Head of Pre-Employment Training to demonstrate individual distance travelled.
  2. Accurately record daily learner attendance and follow up on learner absence swiftly.

Communication and general administration:

  1. Take responsibility for Health & Safety, Equality & Diversity, Data Protection, and Safeguarding. The post holder will also comply with all information and training supplied and discuss any concerns with their Line Manager.
  2. Attend and contribute to regular whole staff and learning support team meetings.
  3. Complete ID checks, evidence of the first day of learning and exit reviews to support the business in meeting its contractual funding obligations.

Standardisation of Practice (as required):

  1. Work with colleagues to improve teaching, learning, and assessment.
  2. Where necessary contribute to the devising of processes and procedures to improve overall quality and consistency of programs.
  3. Manage your own professional development through undertaking relevant training and sharing best practice with other trainers.

Other:

  1. Support and promote the Company s aims and objectives.
  2. Understand and apply the Company s relevant policies, procedures, and working practices.
  3. Carry out administrative duties associated with the role.
  4. Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date course and learner records.
  5. Take part in company enrolment, induction, marketing, meetings, activities, as required.
  6. Provide learners with pastoral and academic support.

Customer Care:

Deal confidently with staff, learners, and other external customers demonstrating respect.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

CRITERIA ESSENTIAL/ DESIRABLE

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 3 years construction experience. (E)
  • CSCS Card (E)
  • Prior experience of delivering appropriate training (E)
  • Excellent working knowledge of the subject areas and related industries (E)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of Level 3 Award in Education and Training (PTLLS) (E)
  • Level 2 English and maths at minimum Grade C (or equivalent) (E)
  • Health and Safety Qualification (D)
  • Level 3 Assessors Award (E)
  • Recognised Level 3 qualification in relevant delivery area (E)
  • PGCE/Cert Ed (D)
  • Degree in a relevant subject (D)
  • IAG Level 2 Qualification (D)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Up-to-date knowledge of current initiatives relating to the subject area (E)
  • Experience of planning and delivering effectively (E)
  • Strong organization, time management, and administrative skills (E)
  • Ability to meet set targets (E)

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Demonstrate commitment to safeguarding and health and safety in the workplace (E)
  • Commitment to the provision of a high-quality learning experience (E)
  • Willingness and ability to work flexibility throughout the week at any site and/or employer's premises (E)
The right candidate would need construction industry experience as well as a tutoring qualification and experience, and the ability to travel for CSCS training when needed to Manchester, Liverpool and very rarely Tees Valley and London, although the role is majority remote. The salary is capped at £30k but we offer a bonus by achieving both 90% day 1 to day 2 arrival (so 90% come back the next day), as well as achieving 85% of the day 2 number this is across the month, rather than a course by course basis.
