You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailPosition Overview: The Central Sterilizing Technician is responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing and sterilization of supplies and equipment dispensed by the department following infection control practices. Must be conscientious with regard to procedures and capable of working under pressure and interacting professionally with other departments within the hospital. Able to accept new ideas and learn position duties. Essential Functions: a) Cleans, disinfects and racks instruments to be sterilized. b) Maintains sterility by routine testing of equipment. c) Understands and uses caution when using the Hamo, Sterrad and Steam Sterilizer. d) Has intimate knowledge of Universal Precautions. e) Assists in policy making and department and surgical services. f) Maintains sterilization records for department and surgical services. g) Works with entire Central Sterilizing team to constantly update and improve sterilizing techniques and processes. h) Stays current in knowledge by becoming registered through IAHCSMM and learns from in services, conventions and reading. i) Is the sterilization expert in the hospital. j) Maintains surgical supplies and equipment inventory. k) Is able to use preference cards to pick surgical case supplies and equipment. l) Works closely with purchasing on inventory control. Physical Demands and Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands along with fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Qualifications & Skills: a) Education: Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. b) Training & Experience: On the job training. Must be willing to take C.S.T. course and become registered within two years of employment. c) Job Knowledge: Must be willing to learn and gain a familiarity with medical terminology and nomenclature of items and equipment used by the department. Knowledge of cleaning and sterilization procedures and techniques. Basic understanding of various functions of the department. Conscientious regard for proper technique.
Shift: 4 - 10 hour shifts Monday - Friday with rotating call coverage
