Job Description

Our client, the Florence Immigrant & Refugee Rights Project is adding a Director of the Office of People and Culture to their leadership team.
FIRRP has experienced significant growth, and this position will play a key role in strengthening the Office of People and Culture and developing/implementing new systems and processes that support this growth and, ultimately, the organization’s ability to thrive in its mission. expand its mission.
This position is an important part of the leadership team, reporting to a Deputy Director and checking in with the Executive Director. They will also lead and oversee organization-wide strategy as well as contribute to the design and implementation of organization-wide developments in conjunction with the Deputy Directors, Legal Director, and other members of the leadership team.

What You Will Do - Key Deliverables:
This Director is responsible for ensuring the leadership and management of OPC operations and that processes are in line with the organization’s culture, our collective bargaining agreement, and standard rules and regulations. The Director of OPC will also have a leadership role in supporting the organization in fostering a healthy organizational culture and forging a collaborative labor-management relationship with FIRRP’s Union.
  • Lead and oversee development, planning, and strategy for all HR and talent acquisition activities across the organization.
  • Drive operational efficiency of the OPC team by defining HR and talent acquisition processes and implementing tools to facilitate operation at scale.
  • Lead and oversee benefits and compensation strategy and management that helps FIRRP stand out with a competitive edge for talent in the market and includes the oversight of benefits selection and administration.
  • Leverage and implement technology (HRIS, ATS, and other systems) to find efficiency, continue transparency and communication, and support HR data needs.
  • Provide leadership and guidance in all areas of HR and employment; this can include relevant laws and regulations, policy development, updating and communication/enforcement, and staying up to date on shifts and trends.
  • Work closely with management to ensure their team members are performing optimally and provide coaching and mentoring when needed.
  • Oversee organizational training and professional development through understanding the competencies needed in each role, facilitating professional development goal setting, and develop/manage the training strategy.
  • Foster an inclusive and mission-driven organizational culture through your own education, participation in working groups that build on the mission, engaging and collaborating with the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Team, and creating supporting policies and best practices.
  • Provide advocacy for the FIRRP team(s), setting an example that encourages mission and values alignment, and giving guidance and advice.
  • Manage labor relations initiatives.

  • The starting salary is $129K and is offered from there with commensurate with experience

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or a minimum of 5 years of human resources experience required plus progressive leadership roles.
  • Up to date on employment law, experience with creating compliant and organizational culture fit employee policies.
  • Strong working knowledge of HR functions and procedures (e.g. pay and benefits, recruitment, training, and development) and able to mentor others to obtain skills.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Knowledge of HRIS and payroll compliance systems, employee database setup, and design
  • Leadership experience, being a proactive and engaged supervisor without micromanaging, and being a clear and thoughtful decision-maker.
  • Advanced proficiency or fluency in Spanish is required.
  • Must have a driver’s license and access to reliable transportation and the ability to travel regularly, especially among offices and secondary work locations including the Phoenix, Tucson, and Florence offices.
  • Advanced understanding of office applications and computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certificate from HRCI or SHRM: SPHR, PHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP, a JD, and/or an MSW preferred.
  • Non-profit experience is a plus.
  • Experience with large-scale organizational change efforts is a plus.
  • Experience working with a union is a plus.
  • Experience working in human resources at legal and/or social services organizations is a plus.
  • Experience managing across multiple locations is preferred.
