Job Description

Van Cleef Engineering Associates (VCEA) is a mid-size consulting civil engineering firm with offices in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The firm provides land development and municipal engineering services, including structural, transportation, geotechnical, surveying and construction inspection.

VCEA is looking for a focused, smart, and industrious Senior Accountant to join our growing team in our Hillsborough, NJ office. This individual will report to the Director of Operations and provide vital support to the accounting department to help streamline the company s financial processes. This is a full time in office position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform monthly general ledger close through to the trial balance
  • Prepare and record monthly journal entries
  • Prepare journal entries for required reclassifications, and monthly accruals
  • Record company payroll/tax disbursement and journal entries for pay, taxes, 401k and FSA
  • Run month end processes such are revenue recognition and intercompany transactions
  • Maintain monthly bank reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly account analysis and reconciliations
  • Identify and resolve financial discrepancies
  • Review expense reports to ensure compliance with company s policy
  • Ensure all A/P invoices, expenses reports, internal check requests, etc. are processed accurately and timely
  • Prepare for approval and release payment transactions such as paper checks, ACH, and wires
  • Provide projections of short-term payables for the forecast of upcoming payments
  • Compile materials for year-end financial statements and tax planning for outside accounting firm, close out fiscal year, and prepare and issue 1099s to consultants/vendors
  • Assist in the formulation of internal controls and policies to comply with accounting and established best practices
  • Drive continuous improvement of the financial processes
  • Review data to ensure that proper procedures are always being followed
  • Work closely with the Director of Operations and Controller to monitor and report on firm financial status
  • Other duties as assigned by the Controller and Director of Operations


Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Business
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as an accountant
  • Superior Excel skills
  • Industry experience preferred, Architecture or Engineering
  • Knowledge of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Part 31 and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) preferred, but not required
  • Ability to prioritize and work in a team environment, but also independently
  • Exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality regarding company accounts
  • Perform accurate work to the highest standards of accountancy
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Deltek Vision a plus

Bachelor s degree in Civil Engineering, NJ PE Required Minimum of 7+ years of experience servicing municipal clients and/or managing infrastructure projects Experience with civil design, bidding and project management and communicating with clients and contractors; experience reviewing land development applications Understanding of the New Jersey Municipal Land Use Law, Residential Site Improvement Standards and Local Public Contracts Law Familiarity with latest New Jersey Storm water Management/MS4 permit regulations as well as other New Jersey regulatory agency requirements Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D required; GIS experience a plus Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; Must have good written/verbal communication and people skills to facilitate frequent public communication Exposure to public testimony for Planning Boards and/or Land Use Boards is beneficial
