Job Description

This is a remote position.

We are looking for COPAINALA ZOQUE <> English court interpreters for in-person, virtual, or hybrid services.

The Court Interpreter provides essential interpretation services to non-English speaking or hearing-impaired individuals in judicial settings. They play a pivotal role in ensuring that these individuals fully understand their rights, the court proceedings, and any communications from court officials.

Court Interpreter Job Description

Position Title: Court Interpreter

Department: Judicial Services

Reports To: Court Administrator or Designated Supervisor

Position Summary:
The Court Interpreter provides essential interpretation services to non-English speaking or hearing-impaired individuals in judicial settings. They play a pivotal role in ensuring that these individuals fully understand their rights, the court proceedings, and any communications from court officials.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Interpretation Services

Accurately interpret oral statements from one language into another in real-time during court proceedings.
Render a complete and accurate interpretation or translation without omitting, adding to, or altering the intended meaning.
Interpret for witnesses, defendants, plaintiffs, attorneys, judges, and other court personnel.
Document Translation

Translate written legal documents, including court notices, legal forms, and evidence.
Ensure the translated documents retain the original meaning and adhere to the court's requirements.
Maintain Confidentiality

Adhere to a strict code of ethics and maintain the confidentiality of all court-related information.
Avoid conflicts of interest and disclose any potential conflicts.
Continuous Learning

Stay updated on legal terminologies, court procedures, and the ethical guidelines of the profession.
Attend periodic trainings and workshops to enhance interpretation skills.
Cultural Sensitivity

Display awareness of cultural differences and nuances to ensure unbiased and respectful communication.
Provide insight into cultural backgrounds when necessary to aid in court proceedings.
Administrative Tasks

Coordinate and schedule interpretation sessions.
Maintain accurate records of interpretation services provided.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in languages, interpretation, or a related field.
  • Certification: Professional certification in court interpretation is preferred (e.g., from the National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators or similar body).
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of professional interpretation experience, preferably within a legal or court setting.
  • Language Proficiency: Native or near-native proficiency in English and at least one other language.
Skills:

  • Strong listening and speaking skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of legal terminology.
  • Ability to handle stress and emotionally charged situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong ethical judgment and professionalism.

Benefits


  • This is a 1099 Contract Position.
  • We pay twice per month on the 1st and 15th of each month.
