Job Description

The BI Specialist cleans and analyzes a variety of agency data sources in order to build compelling visualizations that display public health insight for different audiences. - Resource will work remotely but preference will be given to those located in Indiana or the Midwest states. - The BI Specialist position, within the Office of Data and Analytics (ODA), cleans and analyzes a variety of agency data sources in order to build compelling visualizations that display public health insights. - Working independently, with some guidance from senior staff, the incumbent conducts general data analysis, builds visualization and reports, presents key findings, and supports the implementation of process improvements around the agency. - The incumbent also supports activities related to IDOH's data transformation, as needed. - This role serves a subject matter expert for data visualization and dashboard design, especially related to the use of Tableau. **JOB DUTIES** - Serves as project lead for data visualization projects, as assigned - Preps, validates, and analyzes agency data sources with minimal guidance - Conducts data quality checks, as needed, to ensure the validity and cleanliness of agency datasets prior to their use in analysis and reporting - Designs and develops effective Tableau dashboard and other visualizations for the purpose of communicating public health insight(s) to a wide variety of audiences. - Collaborate with internal and external partners to develop novel ways of visualizing the findings of public health data analysis. - Provide technical assistance to IDOH program areas for updating and maintaining existing dashboards. - Presents key findings and summaries of results to internal and external stakeholders - Adheres to HIPAA and other state statutes concerned with protecting data confidentiality and individual privacy - Supports IDOH Data Transformation Office activities, as requested **REQUIREMENTS** - A bachelor's degree from an accredited university in biostatistics, mathematics, epidemiology, analytics, programming, or related field. - 1-3 years of directly applicable experience in data analytics. - Demonstrated experience with data manipulation, including cleansing, standardizing, and transforming preferred. - General knowledge of statistical software, open-source programming languages, and database querying. - Proficiency using Tableau and Tableau Prep is required; experience with PowerBI or other tools is also preferred. - General knowledge of at least one of the following is preferred: SAS, SQL, R, Python, ArcGIS. - Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities. - Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written. - Broad knowledge of data analysis, analytics, or statistics or demonstrated ability to learn. - Ability to work in a team environment with multiple and fluid demands. - Ability to maintain effective and professional working relationships with internal and external customers. **Skill** **Required / Desired** **Amount** **of Experience** Experience designing and developing Tableau dashboards to build effective visualizations that meet a business need Required2Years Experience using Tableau Prep cleaning, validating, and analyzing data prior to visualization Required2Years Candidate must have at least 2 years work experience after last reported academic degree Required2Years Ability to understand the data analysis life cycle and its application in a business setting Required1Years Experience using Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel in a professional setting Required1Years Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in biostatistics, mathematics, epidemiology, analytics, programming, or related field Required Experience using one of the following: SAS, R, Python, ArcGIS Highly desired Public Health experience Highly desired Experience using PowerBI or other data visualization tools to build effective visualizations that meet a business need.
