Job Description

With headquarters in Leicester and a nationwide network of laboratories and offices, offering a wide range of Construction Materials Testing, Surveying and Monitoring services, CTS (a Phenna Group Company) is the go-to partner of choice, supporting all sectors of the construction market including residential, commercial, rail, road, airports, tunnelling, mining and utilities as well as brownfield regeneration

As part of our growth plan, CTS are currently searching for an experienced Microbiology Laboratory Manager to oversee the development and operational activities of a new service offering.

With an existing multimillion pound spend across several external subcontract providers, 2024 will see CTS offer a range of water microbiology testing services to support our colleagues within the Phenna Group Built Environment Division as well as external clients from the building services sector.

This role presents a fantastic opportunity for both personal and professional development by joining CTS at a very exciting stage as we enter into our next phase of growth, backed by a very large investment package from Phenna Group.

The successful candidate will have a very keen desire to build a legacy, possess a wealth of experience validating microbiology test methods as well as very strong knowledge of ISO17025 systems.

Objectives of this role

  • Develop and manage the new CTS microbiology department
  • Recruit a team of technicians and analysts to support the operations
  • Validate methods and package for submission to UKAS for accreditation purposes
  • Provide input into the building of a Laboratory Information Management System
  • Integrate microbiology test methods into the CTS Quality Management System

    Responsibilities
  • Recruitment, training and development of the microbiology laboratory team
  • Manage day to day operations and quality systems of the microbiology department
  • Influence investment decisions on instrument and CAPEX purchases
  • Undertake non-conformance investigations and audit processes
  • Oversee instrument and equipment calibration requirements
  • Work closely with the business development manager to support client relations
  • Participate in collaborative management meetings
  • Provide monthly reports and presentations to the CTS Management Team

    Skills & Qualifications
  • Proven track record of delivering UKAS accredited test methods
  • Exceptional knowledge of microbiology testing applications
  • Very strong communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Enthusiasm for the company and its growth plans
  • Highly developed time management and organisational systems
  • Previous experience of managing a team of technicians
  • Deep understanding of ISO17025 and the accreditation process
