Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the SEND Manager to deal with all aspects of work relating to the special educational needs of pupils, including input to policy initiatives.
To take responsibility for a specific aspect of SEND such as, home to school transport, elective home education, post-16 learners with SEND and ensuring that legislative and good practice developments are incorporated in the practice of the SSENS.
Key Duties/Accountabilities:
Under the general direction of the SEND Manager, to manage and supervise a case team responsible for decisions and procedures associated with Assessments, Education, Health and Care Plans, resourcing and placing of children with special educational needs.
Assist the SEND Manager in maintaining and developing administrative systems to ensure that the case team operates in an efficient manner and ensure that staff are trained to an appropriate level.
Ensure that responses to day-to-day queries from parents, students, members of the public, schools and colleges and officers of other departments, with respect to special educational needs and disabilities, are answered promptly and in accordance with the policies and practice of the Local Authority.
Support the SEN Panel in considering Statutory Assessments and decide whether it is appropriate to issue an Education, Health and Care Plan to individual children and young people.
Prepare responses and represent the LA at SEN Tribunals, under the supervision of the SEND Manager. Seek legal advice and representation as appropriate.
Essential Experience Required:
Experience of working with educational setting is desirable.
Excellent knowledge of SEND legislation and procedures is essential.
Essential Qualifications Required:
Degree or other equivalent appropriate professional qualification and/or at least 3 years experience in a SEND role is essential.
Qualified teacher status and further qualification in SEND are desirable.
At least 3 years experience working with children and young people who have SEND or who are vulnerable is essential.
Must be IT literate with proven ability to use a database and word processing skills.
