We are a rapidly growing team of 100+ people revolutionising flexible working in the NHS and are helping NHS organisations save millions (and counting), by connecting them to an increasing number of flexible bank workers. We help grow their staff banks, remove reliance and spending on locum agencies, and aim to improve the general experience of flexible bank working.
We have always taken pride in having a hybrid working model even before the pandemic. Despite not being a fully remote employer, we are a flexible employer and encourage all of our employees to come into the office twice a week.
We're looking for a Dev Ops Engineer to join our growing and passionate Technology Team. Technology at Patchwork is responsible for all activities related to the development and maintenance of the platforms we build.
This role will bridge the gap between software development and infrastructure design and deployment. Understanding how software architectures map to underlying infrastructure, and guiding conversations on cloud tools, protocols, cybersecurity and system robustness will be a day-to-day exercise. This role will help create a low-friction toolchain to ensure there's a system with high uptime and a low error rate.
We think the most robust platforms of all are the result of collaborative work between Engineers and DevOps, where learning flows in both directions and the commercial needs of the business are reflected right the way down to infrastructure choices in AWS.
Providing infrastructure leadership to the wider Technology Team, including continuous identification and prioritisation of system improvements.
Leading infrastructure migrations that are incremental, idempotent and do not impact system efficiencies.
Contributing to the design of software architectures, whilst considering scalability, performance, maintainability, and the infrastructure implications.
Working with the Technology Team on infrastructure changes to support new and existing features.
Evaluating the trade-offs between code problem solving vs cloud-native tooling, especially in relation to testability and deployability.
Assisting with infrastructure changes as an ongoing part of technical governance, reflected in the product roadmap.
Creating and maintaining technical documentation whilst upholding good standards of technical communication within the Technology Team.
Keeping up with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices.
Evaluating new tools, technologies, and methodologies to drive continuous improvement.
Proven track record of maintaining uptime of applications.
Proven polyglot, including two or more of: bash, Python, Go, Ruby, React/Typescript, JVM/Kotlin.
Thorough understanding of CI/CD toolchains.
Comfortable with training when it comes to infrastructure-as-code.
Ability to effectively monitor SRE concepts, alarm wisdom, AWS tools, and New Relic.
Demonstrable experience working with agile teams, employing standard agile practices (e.g. pair-programming and TDD).
Prior experience of mentoring squad leaders.
Track record of strategising for management and reduction of technical debt.
Salary Range: 75,000 - 90,000
