Job Description

Join an award winning Library!The Schaumburg Township District Library has a part-time,20-hour/week Technology Learning Assistantposition open.

The Technology Learning Assistant fosters an engaging, user-centered environment while assisting Library customers and staff with both personal and library equipment and technologies in the library. The Technology Learning Assistant provides technical expertise and assistance with the ongoing development and improvement of the Digital Recording Studio services, supports the maintenance and promotion of the Library of Things collections, and the library’s public computers and business machinery (faxes, scanners, copiers, etc). This position requires good organizational and communication skills and the flexibility and training to move from task to task in a team environment.

The hours for this position are Mondays through Thursdays 4:00pm-9:00pm.

The schedule is based on the needs of the library and could change if and when needed. The hourly rate range for this position is$19.30 - $24.13;based on skills and qualifications.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides instructional guidance for patrons individually and in groups designed to showcase and support Library of Things collections and the Digital Studio services and equipment.
  • Participate in Outreach activities, classes, and programs demonstrating Library of Things collections and the Digital Studio services and equipment.
  • Provides 1:1 instructional guidance and support for library and personal technologies and equipment in the library.
  • Attends staff meetings and participates in other committee meetings as needed.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot Library of Things collections & equipment.
  • Cultivate an atmosphere conducive to learning, creating and exploring.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated proficiency and comfort with a variety of hardware and software products.
  • Comfortable with a hands-on approach, particularly an ability to improvise with audiences of varied ages, the use of hand tools, electronics, computer software, hardware and various other technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability in physical computing, hardware and software, video and audio production, and desktop fabrication.
  • Ability to work with colleagues in other departments cooperatively, productively, and positively.

Skills &Competencies

  • Experience with 3D modeling, rendering, printing, audio-visual equipment and software, laser cutters, and other creative technology tools.
  • Proficiency with a variety of technology including Windows and IOS platforms, Microsoft Office and mobile devices.
  • Ability to perform information searches and demonstrate proficiency in job-related software.
  • Ability to educate and encourage advocacy for the library.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent knowledge and skill in areas related to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Customer service experience is required.
  • Experience with a networked computer system is preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic library organization preferred
