Job Description

The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:

1.1.1. The Department of Ministry and Pastoral Care (DMPC), Madigan Army Medical Center (MAMC), Tacoma, Washington has a requirement for the non-personal services of a keyboard musician to accompany congregational singing and soloists, to perform preludes and postludes, and offertories. Keyboard musician services shall be provided on an organ, acoustic piano, or electric piano. Contractor shall coordinate with the officiating chaplain to integrate music in the worship service and the specific instrument (organ or piano) used in a service is at the discretion of the officiating chaplain. Required services exclude weddings.

1.2. QUALIFICATIONREQUIREMENTS:

1.2.1. The contractor shall be proficient at playing in both formal and informal liturgies, and capable of sight reading hymns and anthems from the currently used hymnal and missal, or from other worship music in coordination with the officiating chaplain.

1.2.2. Contractor shall be able to transpose at sight hymns and anthems up or down, improvise freely, and modulate smoothly from one key signature to another.

1.2.3. Contractor shall provide keyboard musician services for worship services on Holy Days and on short notice for memorial services/ceremonies conducted by the MAMC DMPC, to include rehearsals. Contractor s place of performance is mainly at MAMC Chapel unless otherwise specified for memorial services. Place of performance may be subject to change .

1.2.4. Contractors shall be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.

1.4. SCHEDULED DAYS/HOURS OF PERFORMANCE, SPECIFIC

REQUIREMENTS/TASKS:

1.4.1. Contractor shall satisfy the work requirements for the Holy Day Masses and for the following regularly scheduled Roman Catholic Masses and Protestant worship services Saturday Roman Catholic Mass is 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday Roman Catholic Mass is 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Sunday Protestant worship is 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Weekday Roman Catholic Mass is on Tuesdays to Fridays at 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (NOTE: Not all weekday Masses may require musical support). Mass and worship service times are subject to change. Contractor shall be available at least 15 minutes prior to start of Masses and worship services in order to conduct musical coordination/warm-up with the officiating chaplain. Estimated number is 320 services annually.

1.4.2. Contractor shall satisfy the work requirements for special occasions and memorial services/ceremonies as designated by the MAMC DMPC, to include rehearsals. Rehearsals will be arranged through the DMPC COR. Contractor shall play a 15 minute prelude and postlude. Estimated number is 15 services and 15 rehearsals annually.

1.4.3. Contractor shall be available no later than 15 minutes prior to start of service and begin prelude/processional 5 minutes before start of service. Postlude/recessional shall be played for 5 minutes following the end of service, or until worshippers have exited.

1.4.4. Contractor shall provide the DMPC with at least one-week notice of any planned absences and attempt to provide a capable substitute in the event of any absences. This contract has no provisions for paid absences and payment will be made only for services rendered. Consideration of emergency absences will be determined on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the Contract Representative.

1.4.5. The Contractor is responsible for ensuring he/she is adequately rested, fully physically and mentally capable of performing the duties required under this contract.

1.4.6. Closures. In the event of unplanned closure of the facility due to natural disasters, military emergency or severe weather, the Contractor will be treated in the same manner as DOD employees.
