Job Description

Who We Are:

Ritual Zero Proof is America’s #1 non-alcoholic spirit, offering the easiest way to enjoy a satisfying cocktail without the alcohol. Put simply, we are The Liquor Replacement.

We started Ritual not because we have anything against alcohol, but because we like to drink... just not all the time. Because we’re trying to be healthy. Or it’s a weeknight and we don’t want to be hungover in the morning. Or we’re training, doing a dry month, making a baby, or we’ve already had a few and don’t want to go overboard.

As the #1 brand in the fastest-growing category in the whole drinks business, we are where Oatly and Impossible were a few years ago–and we’re just getting started.

This is an opportunity to join an elite team funded by a major multinational as we redefine an entire category.

Who You Are:

As Ritual’s first HR Administrator, your resposibilities will be to boost our collaboration and build the brand’s HR infrastructure as we quickly grow beyond being an early-stage startup. We are looking for a HR professional to help us scale efficiently as our 27 employees grow by 50% over the rest of 2023.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director of Finance and working alongside various key members including Founders (CEO/CMO), VP of Sales, National Sales Director, and various teammates in business insights and finance. It is intended for the HR Administrator to become a central hub for our Chicago HQ, our remote employees, and for all future hires. And even more vital than building great processes, we recognize the importance of hiring a great person.

Primary Responsibility:
Human Resources: half the effort will go toward building out our HR and central office functions.

  • Assisting in the hiring process, including job responsibilities of new hires, communicating with outsourced recruitment firms, vetting applicant resumes, scheduling/flexing into certain interviews, and discussing a candidate’s fit and Ritual’s offered salary/benefits package.
  • Onboarding new hires, including designing/owning/scheduling the training module process, educating hires on benefits options (health, 401k, paid time off), payroll, and basic expectations, and preparing hires for quick launches with the right software, electronics, and other physical/digital assets. There is also the opportunity to recommend restructuring of current benefits to help Ritual best attract and retain talent.
  • Act as the main point of contact for current hires who have questions about payroll, benefits, reimbursements, etc. or act as a listening board for any employee concerns. Help design/facilitate the safe, fair, and effective off-boarding of any employees who leave or are terminated (spirits are high, and turnover is very low).
  • Investigate keeping Ritual running on ADP, or vet other payroll platforms (e.g. Gusto, Rippling, etc.) and suggest/lead a potential payroll platform migration.
  • Ensure that Ritual offers continuous learning and sound practices to remain a safe, inclusive work environment. Responsibilities would include identifying requirements that Ritual must satisfy (e.g. a particular training based on having an employee in a certain state) as well as championing a strong culture through on-going trainings that would be both useful and uplifting to all. We don’t want to bog down employees with cumbersome, one-way training modules, but we want to be confident and proud of the opportunities we offer.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Office Management: we have a collegial work environment where the founder fixes peoples’ desks with his power drill, the head of finance orders breakfast for all, and the CEO plans holiday parties, but Ritual is lacking a true office leader.
  • Be a point person for the last few facets of our new Chicago HQ build-out. This would include work pod solutions to accommodate up to 5 new Chicago hires, and improvement of the technology in our meetings rooms (working with an outsourced IT firm).
  • Lead the recurring Chicago office management tasks such as interfacing with landlord, utilities, and 3rd party suppliers, including the weekly ordering of food and essentials.
  • Be the key organizer of office/company social and learning events. There are also potential opportunities to help our event producer and market managers organize events & tradeshows.
  • Compliance of Misc. Financial Matters: we have a day-to-day accounting team, but there are always one-off compliance matters to resolve to keep Ritual in good standing. Assist the Director of Finance in complying with letters from states regarding matters such as sales & use taxes, state payroll requirements, local/state/national licenses, collection of key tax documents from vendors/suppliers/trade partners, etc.

Other: We all wear alternate uniforms quite often. And we all bring smaller sub-skills to the company from the founders on down – we’re open to hearing where else you might like to pitch in: maybe you like to plan company events, attend local street fests on behalf of Ritual, flex into some finance tasks, keep the physical office running smoothly, organize new charitable events/partnerships, introduce the sales team to a new potential client, bring IT expertise, force us into doing more fitness classes, or just shake wicked cocktails for fellow employees – the choice is yours, and let us know!

Requirements:

  • Established track record of roles in human resources, with some experience as the human resource lead administrator
  • Ability to perform in an entrepreneurial environment, where all employees are expected to both work proficiently and also work well together
  • Background in food & beverage or similar CPGs
  • Roles in office administration, financial systems, and experience working with sales teams are a plus

Benefits:

  • Salary range: $65,000 - $90,000, negotiable based on experience
  • Potential EOY bonus: up to 5% of salary, dependent upon start date with respect to fiscal year
  • Health benefit: $1,000 per month to be put towards health benefits (we offer several plans), or pocketed as personal income if electing to waive health coverage ($12,000 annual value)
  • Life and Disability, independent of above
  • 401k program (Ritual not currently offering a matching program)
  • PTO

Location:

  • Must live in the Chicago area and work most weekdays in Ritual’s Chicago HQ, but flexibility to work hybrid 2 - 3 days a week.
