Job Description

Duties: The RN provides nursing care to patients on each clinical unit as assigned, utilizing the nursing process. Patient population serviced includes both adolescents & adults. Core Competencies: 1. Actively supports, promotes & works to fulfill the Mission, Vision & Values of FVH. 2. Demonstrates commitment to the Service Excellence program. 3. Meets all competency & education requirements annually per department STANDARDS, which will include age specific-growth & development competencies. Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities 1. Utilizing the nursing process, the RN develops an initial nursing treatment plan for each admitted patient. 2. Competent in assessing, planning, & delivering care for patients with co-occurring disorders. 3. The nurse continually assesses & reassesses the patient's medical & psychiatric status & changing needs. 4. Participates with other team members in planning & implementing the patient's treatment plan. 5. Directs & participates with other personnel in maintaining a safe & therapeutic milieu. 6. Assists with discharge planning & works with patient's discharges. 7. Provides leadership to other personnel in crisis behavioral management. Determines the need for the use of seclusion &/or restraint with patients, assesses the patient's physical & emotional status & determines the cessation of their use, when appropriate. 8. Provides medication administration, medication teaching activities, assessment of medication side effects & medication efficacy, & assists physicians in obtaining informed consent. 9. Maintains own professionalism & adheres to the determined STANDARDS of care & performance. 10. Accurately transcribes physician orders according to nursing policy & procedure. 11. Adheres to the Infection Control policies & procedures of the hospital & follows st&ard precautions at all times. 12. Assesses & reassesses patients pain & provides nursing care as needed. 13. Attend Monthly Clinical Staff meetings or read minutes & sign form of acknowledgement. 14. Maintains & stays current with nursing STANDARDS of care & nursing practices. 15. Demonstrates the ability to Handle incoming crisis calls, make referrals & complete assessments as necessary. 16. Demonstrates ability to maintain therapeutic relationships, which do not allow self-disclosure of personal/social information to patients & adheres to the Professional Boundary Policy. 17. Performs other duties as assigned. Charge Nurse Functions & Responsibilities: 1. Provides overall leadership for all 4 nursing halls, for the shift. 2. Triages admissions & coordinates discharges & admissions with Intake Department. 3. Is a resource to all departments of the hospital during the shift. 4. Provides leadership in emergencies & leads all codes for the hospital. 5. Oversees staffing for current shift & next shift. Safety Responsibilities: Report any/all safety concerns to Supervisor, Loss Control Coordinator, Maintenance If injured, will complete with supervisor, an Employee Accident Report & submit it to Loss Control Coordinator. Will report accidents to the Loss Control Coordinator by the end of the shift or within 24 hours outlining the nature of the injury. If work related accident results in a back injury, employee will be required to go through the Back Injury Prevention Training with the Staff Development Coordinator. If injured, will abide by the Return to Work/Light Duty Program guidelines. Will abide by the Hospital's Safety Policies. Physical DEMANDS of the Job Physically & mentally dem&ing with prolonged extensive or considerable sitting, st&ing, & walking. May include turning & lifting patients.

Skills: Basic underrstandingof psychiatric nursing theory & practice with previous psychiatric clinical experience - Desired BLS - Required Current RN licensure in the state of Michigan. - Required Demonstrates clinical competency in providing general nursing care. - Desired Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. - Required Handle with care (will train) - Highly desired

Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. 2. Basic underrstandingof psychiatric nursing theory & practice with previous psychiatric clinical experience desired.

Schedule Notes: PRN Nursing Position - Shift schedule provided in interview - Varied schedule only 3 shifts a month are needed for PRN but more might be needed! - 1 year contract *Next Orientation November 7th*
